HYGROZYME? HOW AND WHY?

Curious as to how you use it...and why you are using this product. It is expensive...however many people swear by it. Will this help me in hydroton...as I have been getting many little dead root fibers showing up in my new grows...as they are hard to remove by hand...will this solve my issue with this?

Will it increase yield....I would like to hear from some of the bigger guys on here....

What is your take on this stuff?

Thanks

I only use it when I am recycling coco. If there is no dead plant matter in the system, such as when I am doing 100% fresh coco, I don't see it as being worth it.

In your case where there is a lot of dead plant matter clinging to the medium, I think it would mitigate or eliminate the harm that could be done. I would not consider any enzyme product to be a yield booster. It's there to prevent your yield from decreasing, not to cause your yield to increase.

How exactly do you use it when youre recycling coco?

When I recycle coco I have usually let it sit around for at least a week drying out and making sure that all the roots inside know damn well that they are dead. The way I work recycled coco in is that when I am transplanting to a larger pot for flowering I put a layer of old coco on the bottom, I then soak that in a 18mL / gallon Cannazyme solution. Then I put the smaller plant and rootball and the fresh coco on top. I run 18mL / gallon of Cannazyme for the first reservoir fill. I run it at 9mL / gallon for 1 or 2 reservoir fills after that, but not the whole grow. Canna tells you to run a high dose of it on your last feeding before harvest if you plan to recycle your medium; I always forget to do that, but I think it would be helpful.

How exactly do you use it when youre recycling coco?

I used to run atami 1 meter slabs and just put new clones right in after running the drippers with straight water and enzymes nicely through it.

The enzymes are harmless to the new roots, but turn the old roots in to a food source.

They're also helpful in hydro situations for consuming dead organic material that could become a host for pathogens like pythium.

its not going to protect you against root rot, but it'll give you a better chance of avoiding it.

Thanks guys...so I guess I will let my hydroton sit in it for a bit to get that nasty crap out of it that I can't get with a strainer.

Which is better hygrozyme or cannazyme?

not sure about cannazyme, but my buddy who owns a hydro store did a comparison because hygrozyme was really pushing their stuff on him hard between hygrozyme, H&G's multizen and AN's sensizym,

breaking down peices of paper, slices of apple etc

and he seems to like the AN product

Was interested in the pondzyme stuff, but sprouting barley and then blending it with your water is so easy and cheap.

Here is a Post from Clackamas Cootz on the PondZyme Stuff:

The products sold as 'pond enzymes' are from barley. Before the bottled products came along, farm stores sold bales of barley hay to control algae in ponds. Koi pond store sell smaller 'bales' that you can review at a number of web sites. I've even seen the smaller packs at Walmart in the rural areas where having ponds on a farm is the norm.

Other products sold for septic tanks are combinations of various lactobacillus strains - not a big mystery. Some of the manufacturers of these products have new products that are made for 'agriculture & gardening' applications trying to cash in on the EM-1 product's claims.

Either way, Barley or Pondzyme.... way way way cheaper than some super secret ingredient from the big nutrient companies.
