Q. Does Final Phase work as effectively in soil as it does hydroponically? Do I have to start my flush earlier in soil than I would when growing with hydro?
Final Phase will work in any growing medium, but we do not recommend it in soil based systems as they cannot be effectively flushed. Hydroponic systems can be almost 100% emptied of the Final Phase treated nutrient solution, and refilled with fresh water.
Soil Based systems have properties that enable nutrient holding; Cationic exchange Capacity or CEC is one of these. Final Phase would have to be applied more frequently to have the same effect as it does in hydroponic systems in order to work against the higher CEC of soils.
Using Final Phase at the recommended rate on Soil based gardens works well to correct overloaded soils that have accumulated excessive nutrients, but the frequency of application would be at the growers discretion.
Growers using soil based systems can achieve similar effects at spreading and solubilizing nutrients by applying generous amounts of humic acid during the last 2 weeks of growing. Flushing soil based gardens with Advanced Nutrients Grandma Enggys H2 mixed into pure water is an ideal way to condition the soil for re-use in the next crop cycle. The humates that are flushed out of the soil will reduce nutrient build up during those last 2 weeks, similar to Final Phase.
