large scale extraction method-whats ur pref/tech

so this is what im tryng to figure out...what everyones opinion are based on experience of LARGE scale extractions
ie-if u use a turkey baster, this prob isnt directed to u...
some say iso, some say acetone...
i wanna ask what any one thats done huge ones whats the diff ways and pros and cons....
thanks!

and when i say large scale i mean like using 5 units of material at a time plus....

Depends on what a unit is. We process a half a pound in 30 minutes using butane extraction and recycle and the cost, excluding labor, is about $0.038 per gram.

We extract fanleaves and stems for topical with denatured alcohol, which is about $10 a gallon in 5 gallon lots and $5 gallon in 50 gallon drums. Yield and cost vary considerably, depending on the material.

ionelabs.com has a unit called the "queen bee" that is designed to process 5 lbs of material at a time, its based off a mutation between grey wolf's and foaf's design, if you are in Washington state they do extractions for a percentage of the oil provided no pesticides were used in the growing of the material. http://ionelabs.com/processing-systems/

Thanks for the link bro! The synergy brings tears to an old tattered gray wolf's eyes and must have brother Foaf dewey eyed as well!

Good job keeping your eye on and carrying the ball ionelabs!

The Ionelabs is link interesting....

We do 5 to 6 pounds at a time using n-butane with full recovery.

Different system to the Tami or GW's designs.

The primary reason I favor butane is that it seems to give better yields than alcohols or acetone and does not extract water soluble components.

The other plus is that with butane you don't have to be concerned with separating the water from the solvent in the recovery process.

Anyone here running with the Emo-Tek extractors yet?

Wow, pretty.. I like the detail to stainless steel. Looks like quite a few people between WA and CO are working quickly to bring their extractors to market. It's interesting and seems as though they all still prey upon ignorance of both equipment and technique. Conveniently leaving out cost, cycle/time information, or even what kind of solvent they use (everyone's still clutching onto their ignorant fears of butane for instance) I hope with a little research and due diligence, most people can see they can build their OWN unit, fully understand and comprehend its operation, for PENNIES on the dollar to what these people charge. Take it from some one who bought a Tami(ssium) only to realize that I could have built something that processed ten times the material in a fraction of the time (current fabrication in process). I like the Tami, useful for research and augmenting your routine, but not very high output. I end up working 27hrs a day > . <

Glacier Tank has some 8", 10", and 12" sanitary spools due from China, that are 12" long. I have one on order, to build a fully automated Mk V, based on the 12" X 12" spool as a collection tank.

It will use a 4" X 36" sanitary spool for the column, which should process about 1670 grams (3.7 lbs) per run, in about an hour.

PSI is building my electronics, at about half the size of the Mk II, and is adding more bells and whistles, based on ours and Sean's Mk II beta testing.

I'll post some pictures once the spools arrive and I have an assembly.

I gave away my designs to public domain, and public sourced the parts, in hopes that they would catch on and folks would build their own relatively cheap Terpenators.

My goal is to get more closed systems in use recyling butane, and less open systems that don't recycle the butane and which expose the operators to greater hazards.

That mostly worked, but not everyone wants to build their own equipment, and would rather pay someone else to do so. I recently talked to a fellow, who sold three Terpenators for $8000 apiece, that cost about $2500 each to build, including outside labor.

The customers felt like they got a good deal, based on the equipments output, and their lack of desire to build their own, so what can I say?

I'm just glad there are three more Terpenators in use and both the builder and the customer walked away feeling like they got a good deal.

Wow. I just sent an email requesting info at specialized formulations....I thought I knew what I was doing when this was about stainless steel tubes and cans of butane, now I feel pretty lost. I basically want to be able to process 5lbs or more of material per day and I don't have 20k to spend on a machine right now and from what I've groked so far that's not the way to go anyways. I could probably spend 5k right now. Also, I feel conflicted about blasting an entire of pallet of butane cans. I have no welding skills and I'm pretty busy as a farmer so I don't envision being able to take on the job of full time tinkerer...even though it's kind of alluring If anyone would be willing to point me in the right direction it'd be much appreciated.

Hey, Gray Wolf I saw that you sent me a message but I couldn't figure out how to reply. I think it might be because I don't have enough posts to do PMs? I know they do that on some sites. I haven't heard back from SF yet..I'm getting the sense that they're slow to respond.
