i see the occasional grow where the fan leaves have a green/black look
love the look, but curious if this is some regional genetic signature?

A few years ago there was an insane looking purple/black frosted strain that Skunk ran in their mag, but the name escapes me at the moment. I tried to google it but the only result that came up was that pillow biter Bobby Black of High Times.

Girl Scout Cookies, Grape Ape, Deep Chunk, Jamband (our Headband x Jamaican), seen a few afghans do it, not the Mazar-i-sharif we grow however, all dark green.

Peace

thanks for those quick posts, apparently the black trait shows up kind of regular
searched for any threads on it, didn't see any, thought one was overdue, it's one bad ass look for a plant

this was a nepalese indica I grew out a few years ago

this was brought on by the cold weather

here's a cross I made with her, it wasn't as cold when I harvested, natural purple not due to the cold but the leaves were turning because of the cold

so this trait is not unusual at all, find a dark green plant and let the temperature drop, you'll get something very dark

The black one in the middle is Wonder Woman from Nirvana. I grew this along with Chrystal and White Rhino a couple years ago. This Wonder Woman plant was the darkest I've ever grown or seen in person. It turned out to be a low yielder with low potency, but it was beautiful. I should have taken better quality pics.

My one black plant grew that way naturally with warm temperatures. It was indoors in the summer in California. I guess some individuals just turn out that way genetically.

I've never grown such nice looking purple buds like in your second pic. How did that one smoke in terms of the taste and high?

that's a beautiful looking plant, what kind of night time temperatures were you getting? I guess some plants are more sensitive than others.

All I know is that it is accelerated by the colder weather, being from canada I have examples of this every year.

you can see more pics in my album, I don't want to hijack this thread

I ran a little test indoors to make extra seeds and the taste and smell was almost 100% frankincense with a creamy incense and bitter taste.

this was grown outdoors, it had similar smells buried in there but not as defined, incense, botanical, musky, berry.

it smokes very much like the nepalese hash which was very spaced out, it needed a good cure to really shine,it had good potency,a bit of a creeper, active but relaxing , it built up to quite a spacey and head spinning high.

I grew that one indoors with the light on at night to avoid getting too hot. Nighttime temps (daytime for the plants) were in the 80s. It got down to the 70s during the day with the light off. I've only grown in the southeast US and here in California, so I've never had a chance to see what cold night temperatures can do to my favorite strains. This one was beautiful in person, but the potency just wasn't there. I ended up turning the whole plant (buds and leaves) into capsules with coconut oil. One or two capsules were enough to get me decently high.

That Nepalese plant sounds amazing. I love a strong indica before bedtime. I've never tasted Nepalese buds or hash, but my mouth is watering just looking at those purple buds. I'll have to go check out your gallery pics.

I never got around to ordering any of the seeds for myself, so I never grew it, but there was a strain back around '08 by Legend's Own called "High End" that I remember seeing pictures of, and it was the blackest-leaved cannabis plants I've ever seen. The buds, not so much, but the leaves were! I'll see if I can find a picture... I remember one from a thread called "color connoisseurs" or something like that...

Edit: I FOUND IT! This is not my own picture. I took it from this thread:

that was a sativa dominant cross between the nepalese and a haze.. the nepalese by itself wasn't a natural purple but the haze was.

and also the nepalese was pretty heady for an indica.

Black domina is my black strain. I have a mother from a 20+ yr. old clone. The leaves on it are just about black, all of the time. Makes nice dark green nugs. I also have a pheno of pineapple express that the leaves get near black.

I have a NL/Shiva that has black leaves (among other colors), any temp., but cold makes the colors darker. She is Afghan dominate.
