Chinese Firm buys Smithfield Pork (largest Pork Company in US)

Just so you know you are getting chinese food everytime you buy non local pork at the Supermarket. Basically every package in the country is from one of two companies down south, except for local stuff. A chinese firm just bought the bigger of those two pork companies Smithfield.

Several years ago after a Rolling Stone expose on the Manure lakes created from mass produced pork I started flipping over my bacon and pork products at the store. Sure enough they are all from the same place, regardless of which well known brand name pork product it was. Not that disturbing on the surface, at first.

These manure lakes kill several people a year, when they fall in and the noxious gases make them unable to escape drowning in liquid pig shit. Its the people who die trying to save their friends that fall in that are the even sicker tragedy. The fountains in the lakes shoot poo high in the air and people who live downwind have numerous scary diseases, even as far away as 18 miles. They also can not grow normal plants in their yards. The pigs that are too weak to walk are culled, so don't worry about that, but if they can pump them full of enough drugs to get them to take 2 steps, they're food grade.

I have complete confidence the Chinese will reverse this environmental record, and increase plant safety. Sleep easy Gotham.

Smithfield are awful. One of my favourite foods that my gran used to give me when I was a kid, was PEK chopped pork (like spam) sandwiches. Now I can't buy it because it is a Smithfield product.

I'm not a big fan of Nixon or Clinton....Main reason is one started the war on drugs..the other ramped it up a few notches. The next issue I have with them is the fact they sold America to the Chinese. Deeds worthy of treason.

I doubt they will close these farms and ship from China...so Chinese owned maybe...but not a Chinese product. Even though they bought it...they still have to follow USDA rules....not that they are great...just better than Chinese standards.

Yeah, an oddly beautiful, yet disgusting account to be sure!

Big Ag or China? Very hard to argue that one is worse than the other or even that they are any different. Desperate times ahead, I fear. Just heard yesterday that a rogue strain of Monsanto GMO wheat was found in a field in Oregon. It's as if every cheesey Sci-Fi vision of the future is being used a guidebook.

China has really started cashing in in the last few years.

It's the Great American Fire Sale.

We're like the broke crackhead pawning off everything they have so we can stay high for a couple more days.

A few hundred years ago it would have been considered economic warfare to buy such a substantial part of a countries debt because you eventually defacto own that country. However, the US is so broke that we've been happy to pawn off our future and destroy ourselves to maintain our illusion of prosperity for the short term.

Won't be eating any of their products. Every time I pick up up a product from a US company made in China, I let them know I won't be buying that product again. Black and Decker and DeWalt already lost my business. So has Band-Aid and a few others. F*ck you for exporting American Jobs to China to make a few pennies on inferior and sometimes lethal shit. Poison pet food, toothpaste and lead painted toys? F*ck that...

I have nothing against the people of China, but screw that business model.

If you buy stuff cos its cheap you are funding human rights abuse and disregard for environmental laws. Those are the reasons china is able to manufacture cheaper than other countries.

American people standby for substandard pork. American pigs standby to experience the most horrible abuse!

Just bought some Chippewa work boots made in the USA a few week ago... they help dig big holes deep in the woods.

I recently went to buy some Red Wing boots as I was under the impression they were made in the USA. Looked at the tag and was surprised to see "made in china"

When I inquired about it I was told the glue used in the soles of the boots was not allowed to be used in the USA and that's why they moved operations.

Okay, so I asked, "is this glue detrimental to the environment or to the employees handling it, in other words, does Red Wing not care about the environment or do they just not care about their workers"?

Manager had no answer for that.

Oh yeah, boots still cost over 100 bucks, which I was willing to pay for American made, not Chinese crap.
