Day 14 - They were fed yesterday with Vitalink grow nutes (1ml per litre) and they seemed to perk up a bit today :)

This morning I fed them again with Vitalink grow nutes at a slightly higher dose. I figure my drainage is pretty good with the added perlite and the hydroton clay balls at the bottom I want to see if they can handle more food.

Dosed them with Vitalink grow @ 1.5ml per litre (PH 5.8) and added some Multicrop plant starter (which has Indole Acetic Acid and Naphthalene Acetic Acid in it) this should encourage more root growth according to the instructions - so we'll see how they cope tomorrow!

picture.php

In coco, it's easier to feed/water daily to keep your PH in check since it swings quite rapidly in the medium. They also appear to be recovering from their deficiency.

I have some epsom salts (magnesium) on their way to help balance out the nutes which should arrive in the next few days. I hope they will cope until then!

The plants today are looking pretty good. I think I may let them dry out a bit to encourage further root growth.

I found this before whilst trying to figure out CF to PPM conversion and thought it may help some fellow icmagers out :) it's an equivalents table for EC / PPM and CF. Formatting this was a true 8!%(# - Enjoy!

Day 17 update

picture.php

They look like they're making the transition into the vegging stage. Tomorrow I will feed them and this time I will add in some Epsom salt (Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate) :)

Oh and a few things I've noticed.

Seedlings don't need to be fed/watered too much.

If you have an oscillating fan blowing on them - turning it off at for the night period increases their growth since they don't have to use so much energy and any energy they do have will go into new added growth. I also noticed that humidity levels rose to 70% with the fan off during the night which is a good thing during seedling/veg state.

The indole acetic acid stuff works very well and is typically used in cloning/cutting solutions. Yet applying it to seedlings really increases growth rates.

Hi killerweed31 - thanks for your kind words and for stopping by :huggg:

Day 18 -

Day 18 marks the start of something interesting.

This morning I noticed that several of the plants have begun terpenoid production (that very lovely cannabis smell) the scent is not very strong as you have to be very close to the plant to notice it which is a good thing hahaha

Ambient temperatures are also quite low @ 17 degrees celcius and relative humidity is at a 72%.

The plants looked a little hungry today so I have fed them with:

Vitalink Coir Grow @ 12ml *8 litres*
Nitrozime @ 4ml
Carbomax @ 20mg
Magnesium Sulphate Heptahydrate @ 2 tsp

The Nitrozime is a concentrated seaweed extract from Ascophyllum Nodosum. It will help the plants endure the cold temperature swings and help alleviate any stress they will suffer from it. Nitrozime also contains natural growth hormones too and I will be using it occasionally through-out the veg cycle.

After feeding the plants I noticed that the water was not draining anywhere near as fast as it used to - I hope this is a sign that there are a lot more roots in there.

Today I have some Advanced Nutrients - Piranha coming my way so I will inoculate these plants in 2 days from now. I can't wait to see how much of an improvement the mycorrhizae will make and am quite excited about trying it out. :dance013:

Day 21 update.

Day 21 marks the end of week 3 from seed.

This morning I have inoculated these plants using Advanced Nutrients Piranha (a combination of beneficial trichoderma and mycorrhiza fungi) to encourage inoculation and symbiosis I will now feed lightly and then allow these plants to semi dry up - probably around 4-5 days and then feed another dose of Piranha to top up the process.

Week 3 also begins the first phase of true Vegetative growth which is a great time to inoculate these little plants to give them a kick start into growth for later.

picture.php

In this picture above you can see their development so far :yay:

Fed this morning with (9 litres)

10 ml Vitalink grow
30 mg carbo max
1/4 teaspoon magnesium sulphate heptahydrate
4 teaspoons of advanced nutrients piranha

I'm also keeping an close eye on these youngsters as I will FIM them on their 4th node.

Day 22 -

Today I FIM'd all 5 plants.

The White widows, The Doctor plants (4) all FIM'd on their 4th node.

The Purple Maroc was on it's 3rd node and got the FIM treatment also.

picture.php

Here you can see the little stubble that's left after their naughty little shave

I am going to hook up a 250 watt HID lamp in the upcoming days since I have a feeling this 130 watt CFL lamp I have won't be too good for the bloom phase (I'll probably end up with very fluffy buds) so I may as well upgrade them now haha

Day 23 -

Less than 24 hours after the FIM treatment - they seem to be bushing already.

picture.php

The stubble areas that got FIMMED are showing signs of recovery already which was faster than I expected. I have a feeling I may have missed the most ideal spot to cut them but we'll see how they go in a week or two when the true results should appear (I cut around 80% of the top off - but I think 85-90% may have been better) anyway we'll soon see!

Thanks Killerweed :)

Day 25

I checked the plants this morning and I'm pretty sure that I have missed the FIM cuts :( I will need to redo them just to be safe.

They're still bushing out quite nicely though!

Day 26 -

I have some bad news folks. When I went to try to fix the FIM cut - I ended up doing more damage than good and missed it again LOL.

Note to self: when doing FIM - use a precise pair of scissors or pinch the top (I used a fat pair of scissors and chopped off way too much) so I just ended up topping it *sigh*

At this point - I have made every newbie mistake possible with this grow and I will put it all down to learning for the next round.

Today I installed a 250 watt MH bulb to get some more lumens cranking and the grow tent temp is @ 27 degrees celcius and 65% RH.

picture.php

With the increased temperature I made a el cheapo home made co2 generator. The co2 generator will probably increase the co2 PPM by 100-200 which isn't going to be too much but still usable for the plants I hope.

Day 28

I dropped the lights to be around 13 inches above the plants and they're loving it right now. The leaves are broadening out quite thickly and the smell inside the tent is insane.

The co2 boost is really helping the plants out and have made a noticeable difference. I had to tweak the mix because it was putting out too much co2 and was giving me a crazy throbbing headache.

The mix is now 1/4 teaspoon of active yeast to 150 grams of sugar mixed with water (before it was 1 tsp of yeast to 250 grams of sugar and it was bubbling every 2 seconds, now it bubbles every 12 seconds and should require less maintenance)

The undergrowth is starting to become quite insane and I can't wait to see these plants thrive again. I haven't taken it easy on the plants lately but it's all in the spirit of learning.

Since this is my first run I'm not chasing any big yields and I'm really loving watching these plants grow day by day :good:

Fed today with:

11 ml Vitalink Grow / 9 litres of water
1/2 tsp of Magnesium sulphate heptahydrate
1/2 tsp of Advanced Nutrients Piranha (top up dose)
PH @ 5.8 / PPM 600

Temp: 29 degrees celsius / RH @ 65%

Day 30

Here they are this morning. My co2 generator stopped working due to a small leak - had to fix it up this morning with some more silicone adhesive.

Moved the plants around a bit and here they are this morning:

Some close up shots. You can see they are recovering from the topping procedure quite well and are bushing from the center out.

Day 31

Here they are on day 31. The Purple Maroc suffered mild nute burn yesterday which was a bit strange and the other plants also are showing some rust spots. Possible Calcium def?

I might try flushing them next time, which I have not yet done on this run and it is approaching week 5.

Group shot with names this time :good:

Day 32

Here they are this morning before being fed.

picture.php

Today I flushed all the plants with plain PH'd water @ 5.8 to try to get some of the accumulated salts out.

Then mixed up some fresh nutes and fed them shortly after.

12ml Budlink (Soluble Silica)
6ml Calimagic (Cal/mag/iron)
6ml Vitalink Grow
PH 5.8 / PPM 625

Temp: 28 degrees celsius (82.4 degrees fahrenheit for all you Americans out there hahaha) / RH @ 65%

I also started tying a couple of them LST style but this picture doesn't show it.

Day 33 -

Fed today with:

10ml Vitalink /9 litres
4ml Budlink
2ml Calimagic
PH 5.8 / PPM 600

Temp: 26 degrees celsius / RH: 60%

picture.php

Some of the leaves were showing signs of toxicity and deficiency and I think I found the actual problem. The saucepans I was using had dried up concentrated salts on them and the roots were touching the saucepans so the plant must have been frying a bit.

I cleaned all the saucepans up to get rid of the problem. Hopefully they will start to recover now.

Ey mate. Overall, you're looking pretty good. Other than the yellowing, which you should be able to fix no worries, they're looking pretty healthy. Still keen to see how it Doctor goes. Just popped one myself so it'll be interesting to watch yours grow a few weeks ahead of mine. Anyways, keep it up. I'll keep watching.
