Look what I found hidden on my property!

This beast was hidden by trees and poison ivy so I never noticed it until I found the hose hook-ups buried in my garden. It works by hooking a hose to the small line to fill it and a watering hose to the large drain.

The lines go underground to stay cool

Then pop back up at the tank.

So the reason for this post is because I have never used on of these things before and I am looking for advice on how to maintain them.

The whole thing is sealed shut so it doesn't look like I can get inside to really clean it but it should have stayed clean from being sealed... I hope.

The water comes out just as clean as the hose water I am using to fill it so I assume it is clean in there... no funky taste or smell...

Also will this tank allow the water to de-chlorinate? I am not sure because it is sealed shut if that will affect it or not...

Any insight is greatly appreciated!

There is a pipe sticking up from the ground right next to it but as far as I can tell this thing has no openings other than the fill and drain...

It is also 8 ft tall and I don't have a ladder so my only view of the top has been from
trying to jump up the sides.

All the other ones I am seeing have a lid on the top but I can't quite see it on mine... maybe I just need a better view/ladder lol

has to have a vent or it would implode as water left the tank like water hauling trucks there vented or tank would crush in when person was unloading water same things goes for your tank
must be a air vent somewhere

PS what ever you do make sure you take garden hose off it where ur filling it that could be your vent allowing air into the container

I boosted my roommate to the top and there is a lid inset on the top with an air vent. You couldn't see it until you were all they way on top...

HAha god damn DrF

Good call on that, so far we have just tried filling it with the drain end open but now that I can see the vent it should be OK anyways.

So to other people who have these things how often do you clean it? The water coming out seems perfectly fine but I would hate to handicap myself from the start with dirty water. I figure I could just sterilize with h202 anything special I should be doing to it?

As in don't even try to use it? Why, is it just more hassle than it's worth?

I have been hand watering from a reservoir but I only have 20 plants right now... at most I might have 40 so hand watering would still be pretty easy but a hose would make things so much easier...

Either way it doesn't really matter I just thought it was a stroke of luck that this was tucked away on my property. But I am curious to here your input on why I should leave it alone.

It is on my property and the only lines connected went to a garden in my backyard. The closest house to this thing besides mine is a quarter mile away. I am pretty sure the last owners of this property where growing on a large scale here. The garage is pretty much wired up to go for a huge grow and this water tank is just another footprint they left behind.

this must have been from the previous owners that you never noticed. Great find. I would open the top in the winter depending on where you are. Rain water is a must to capture if you can..

It's on his property. Regardless of who put it there, it's his now.

It's always better to be safe.. if someone put something on my property to use for Illegal activities I would be very concerned..I wouldn't want it there...

This is not the case here.. it was a remnant left behind. His gain there loss.

There is a creek that runs year round about 400 feet away and 150 downhill from the tank... I wonder if it would be worth it to rent a pump and fill from the creek...

IDK seems like a lot of hassle and water really isn't that expensive but I guess it is nice to have that option. I think I would need a well pump and probably some kind of filter plus a hose long enough... yah the more that I think about it water isn't that expensive lol.

nothing beats free water, especially rain water, stream water allot better for plants then tap water being it has been treated with chemicals
