My 1st outdoor attempt

Hello again for those who followed my grow cab fiasco from a couple years ago. My job and other matters has kept me away from this hobby for a couple years. But none the less we all eventually find our way back to this hobby let it be 1 or 10 years. Maybe in not the grow and show type of thing but even the lurkers. :chin: Oh to the point i guess.

So a few weeks back I got a couple of satchels with an over abundance of seeds in them(about 50 in Half oz.) not to mention the countless others that got ground up by me missing them while havesting the seeds. I kept the seeds and figured "what the heck i might as well pop a couple and see if they are viable." I placed 5 in a paper towel and 2 days later 3/5 popped open and had nice looking taproots on them.

Since i'm starting so late 2-3 weeks late for my climate from what I've read I won't be vegging them or sexing them before i put them outside and kinda hoping for the best. I planted them into Jiffy Pods soaked in tap water. Then Put the pods into plastic 2" germinating cups and placed into my Jiffy dome, That was about 3 days ago. Yesterday two of the three have now sprouted and showing good growth and the third well i think its dead i broke the taproot when planting into the pod.

Today I bought two types of potting soil. I dont really know much about outdoors but i they both looked similar and didnt really read the bags to see if they are good or not. I figure it'll work itself out and be more forgiving becuase its outdoors. Also bought a bag of organic Boone meal and Blood meal. I dug 2ftish holes and filled with 1/3 of each potting soil and then 1 cup of bloodmeal and 2 cups bone meal mixed and put a third of the top soil back on top and mixed again.

Stay tuned for pictures and updates

So i just came back from golfing and I see that the third seed has taken root and a sproutling is there as well. Oh yeah on my previous post i forgot to ask about a watering/feeding schedule.

So how often should i water and feed if ever??

Water when somewhat dry, You wont need to feed for 2-3 weeks not sure what soil you have. Good luck and pop a few more just in case

Are they someplace where you can get to them often? Check the bags if you still have them. See if they already have a time-release fert in them.

Good news with that 3rd one - Ive done the same thing.

mulch them!

you can throw the same stuff under the mulch that we all put in our worm bins (but don't overdo it) ........ the worms will come for the easy meal and help you out

Update time

So it has been a busy week. The first two in prepared holes with the potting soil/fertilizer mixture which is in my garden. Then the last one as an after thought in a different spot amongst my other plants in the yard. The ladder one not in treated soil for the plants for a comparison. They seem to be doing well even though the last 2 days have been really rainy and not overly warm. All three have grown 2 only about a 1/2" and the third about 1".

I purchased a rapid soil test kit and tested the top soil. The results came out all in the Proper ranges for NPK and the Ph was since it was only a color change kit between a 6.5-7. With knowing this and the fact that my ferts i used are time release I'm hoping to get away with very little supplemental feedings throughout the growing season. Pictures will follow of everything once i find my camera or maybe i could just use the Iphone.

Good luck with your outdoor season. I don't think you will have to use too much feeding during the season you may want to add a boost a couple of weeks before they look like they are started to flower. Some bloom nutrients would work best. Good luck man.
