i'm afraid to ask, but compost activators, bullshit or not? said to contain (in the label) those super enzymes, fungies and bennies at the same time.
of course act would be better but if you're stuck between paradigms.

I've researched this some years ago....IIRC...most of the 'boxes' of compost activator are a specific bacteria or enzyme that paper mills use to break down the fibers.....can't remember all about it,but it was a bit difficult to find out through the paper mills what they use...seems back then they were unwilling to tell what it was.

comfrey, nettles, grass clippings are all good compost activators. as is urine.

anyone got a comfrey plant as big as this?

yarrow dandelions et al have all the goodies {i think w/ dandelions the roots are big contributors}

no reason to buy activators

lol VG my comfreys are like 3 or 4 leaves @ this point ~the folks have monster comfreys though

coot - do certain crystal malts have more enzymes than others? I thought the # next to the crystal had to do w/ SRM (color measurement in beer) not enzymes...

do you buy powdered malt, or do you freshly mill malted grain? what type of grain/malt should I be looking for? got a whole homebrew store at my disposal...definitely interested in trying out the malt powder for simplicities sake...

This is going to take some acclimating too LOL - the kind of smoke that'll leave amateurs curled in a ball in the corner asking for their binky - not exaggerating.... I had no idea...

RD - Correct, VR x NLH - Cootz take is that these two phenos are strongly VR/thai dominant.

Haven't ran straight VR before.

MMMMmmmm, the opposite of sweet, there ain't nuthin' sweet or kushy about these flowers. none nada zip zilch, no tutti fruity nothin....

Musky, vanilla, spicy, sandalwood, those seem to fit the description, the big one has the 'spicy' nose biting make ya sneeze kind of smell to her which the smaller one lacks, otherwise the same....very lung expanding - 'clenching', instant affect....keep in mind, this was a dried directly off the hanging stem 12 week sample :D on the big girl that will probably fully finish @ 14 or 15 weeks....both are slowing down and showing signs of full maturation....i might actually have some more pictures, the plants look pretty much the same though...just fatter LOL......

I indulged in one of these awesome toys at a festival this year with an older gentlmen and his wife!

Rolled up a big ol bat shaped joint of some "bagseed" sativa and within 2 puffs things started getting trippy

Awesome smoke device someone needs to get that patent and start molding some new ones!!!!

P.S. cootz i definetly made one out of a big mustard bottle when i got home.....
doesnt work as well but chaulks big ol hits still

Your questions were part of my inability to ask the right questions in the brew store(s). The term diastatic malt is one that I've known for years as an artisan baker. Even then if you went into many of these bakeries and asked the head baker (s)he would know what you were talking about but if you asked one of the production bakers they might know it simply as 'malt'

Then I went to a local store in the little town that I live in and the gentleman had everything you need including equipment but we didn't seem to be able to communicate because his orientation is making beer & wine. He used the term 'crystal' and when I asked if some were higher in enzymes than others he started throwing out numbers which didn't mean much to me.

So then I went to F.H. Steinbart Co. in Portland which is 95 years old and it is their claim that they are the oldest homebrew supply store in the USA. Here's their blurb:

At just under a century old, the F.H. Steinbart Co. of Portland, OR is the oldest homebrew supply store in the United States. F.H. Steinbart Co. was founded in 1918 by Frank H. Steinbart.

Near the end of the prohibition, Steinbart passed away. It was at this time that the store was purchased by two of his employees, Angelo Curtello and Joseph DeBenedetti who later passed the business on to his son John DeBenedetti.

Home brewing has always been a hobby that is centered on sharing and community. Everyone loves beer and since beer is easy and inexpensive to make, home brewing has served to remove social and economical boundaries.

To this day F.H. Steinbart Co. is a hub for all kinds of brewers, not just for home brewers, but professionals and publicans alike.

There I hit pay dirt when I found a cryovac pack labeled Diastatic Malt so I took it up to the counter which is staffed by real pros and finally they confirmed that this was a barley malt with the highest enzyme levels. They told me about Great Western Malting and gave me a business card to the area rep and I called him and explained how they malt a number of grains for distilling, brewing and food manufacturing. I explained what I wanted it for and he was a little more than surprised - shocked is probably a better word.

I suspect that the 'crystal' in one form or another has some connection to 'diastatic malt' but my search was over. I established that this is a typical product found at homebrew stores and the general pricing involved. It really didn't matter too much to me because I already had a source through the baking & foodservice suppliers. I was just trying to find some other options for others and since homebrewing beer is a popular hobby and there are a lot of stores out there this could be the path of least resistance.

What needs to happen is someone who know a lot about brewing beer to give you the correct term to use at these stores to avoid confusion.

When you find that out Cann - let me know :D Count me in to test the diastatic malt side by side with fresh sprouts...


Side note - worms are having an orgy in the coconut pulp/meat I piled in the bin.
