Hi Everyone. Quick Question.
Is this leaf claw seen from anything else besides broad mites?
Or, what else can be causing this??
I had broads my last round but been using hotshots No-pest Strips so far (in veg)
Now today I see the first dreaded claw pop up.
Are they back?? Do strips not kill these fuckers??

THANkS!!!

I'd say broads. I have no pest strips in my lung room. I don't think they are good enough to eradicate broads. Maybe knock them back a bit. I've been doing heat treatments every 2-3 weeks. So far so good. I'm just about to enter week 3 of flower. Once week 3 is done I'll do one more heat treatment and then cross my fingers and hope for the best!!!! Hopefully they can finish off the last 6 weeks on there own.

Get on heat treatments and aspirin ASAP!!!! I feed mine aspirin all through veg. I've stopped during flower as my aptus nutes and OG Biowar tea are both supposed to help stimulate the plants natural ability to fight off pests and diseases. Good luck bro!!!!

Yea man, thanks!!! I've been doing aspirin continuous since I found them 325mg/gal.

What you using for heat? I have a bigger space w/ 10' ceilings don't think I can get it to 120F too easily... may have to locate some propane heaters :p

Thanks for the info

doesnt look like the damage i had from broad mites, check it out under a scope!

Moses, what kind of scope you have??
I used a 60-100X, only saw them the first time, when the infestation was real bad.
After that I used avid twice back to back 4 days apart
Then I could only see what maybe eggs, but I couldn't tell

How did you get rid of them completely??
ThankS!!

Already did, these are fresh cuts I took after using Avid 2x on my mom then also mighty wash.. and the clones were dipped in mighty wash too.

The point of this thread is only because I am on high alert to see any possible signs they are coming back...
Thanks!

I just got a loupe but I agree you will only see them if there is a severe infestation.

Once you have had broad mites they will return within six weeks IME, so you are wise to be expecting it!

What size is your grow?

The size is about 10x20 with a high ceiling.
Ya, from reading all these posts I figured they will always come back!
I use Avid last time seemed to work but I need to research how to knock them back in flower witout pesticide..
Thanks!!

My room is 12x16x8. I have 3 1000w gavitas in there. I used 3 space heaters to bring temps up....

LED, what space heaters did you use, how much did they cost???

I hate to spend the money on heaters and still not be able to reach 120f... we never need to turn the heat on here.

Mites never seem to go away because they breed so quickly, when i'm trying to deal with a severe infection, I spray daily for 3 days rather than spacing the sprays out, this completely interrupts the life cycle of the pest colony, every new generation that hatches is shut down before it breeds. Not many products are safe to use in this manner, though, the ones I recomend for this purpose are Pyganic, Final Answer and Mite-X.

SooperSmurph, did you use those products against broad mites? Seems more safe than avid!

Luckily is not a bad infestation now, 1st potential sign only just appeared (claw leaf pic I posted).

Final Answer and Pyganic both list broad mites as vulnerable species, not sure about Mite-X but most species of mites are killed by Garlic oil so Mite-X should work.

Once you have them, they always come back, as they are in your room/house/yard/etc.
No pest strips might knock them back, but will not stop them.
Use aspirin throughout, including flower.
Mites are hard to see, but eggs are easy to see. Check under leaves with 100X scope. 30X is not enough.
In flower, don't spray with toxins. Use heat or predators. Heat will kill predators, so use predators only after heat.
Between runs, use high heat to purge your room or steam clean.
During veg, you can use chems, heat, or predators, but not together, as chems & heat will kill predators.

Hi Retro, thanks man, I learned mostly from you in the other sticky thread
I am using the aspiran all the time now since I found them

The eggs bumps look easily & clearly visible with 100X?
I checked under the leaves all the time with a 100X too but I don't find eggs.
Everytime I think I see one it is only a trich or something.

What is the steam clean you mention.. I was not aware this option
Can I use steamcleaner to "clean" the plants or just the room after cycle is complete??

I am looking into the high heat again, last time only could reach about 103-104F

ThankS!!!!

Re: steam cleaning: only the room, not plants!
You can see eggs with 100X. If you don't see any eggs, you don't have active BM infestation, unless your loupe is not powerful enough. 10$ scope from Radio shack or Amazon is good enough to see them.
If you are sure you had them once, though, they will come (be) back.
Check your roots, and make sure you don't have root aphids.

Hi guys I tried the heat treatment but my room was too large but I think I stumbled onto something by accident. When I scoped my leaves after 80 mins of 110 temps there were no more eggs, apparently the heat made them hatch so I seized the opportunity and sprayed them down. I also used a kerosene heater which put out tremendous amounts of carbon monoxide which I think may also kill them off. I don't live at the grow and I'm safety minded so don't use a gas heater if you have any doubts about your abilities. CO is not the same as CO2 and will kill you dead without any warnings, at those levels no amount of inhillation is acceptable.
