once you screw down plywood the missing 12'' of 2x will have no impact on strength for your purpose. I think you will see some light when its on but do not think it will let light in when off.

right on man, I will face the part where I cut the hole towards the wall and also facing towards where A/C is coming from... can't wait for this to be complete! i hope my bro brings home the plywood today... I don't want to start putting on the reflectix until he brings home the plywood...

With our rooms, the only things in the rooms are the light, a small fan for air circulation, and the plants. The carbon filter is outside of the room. The AC is outside the room. Did you get the insulation board? Fit those into your frame. It is cheap, use that for the room, then cut holes for venting the light, and to bring in cool air. We use 1000 watts per room, and TOH had to turn a window ac, into a portable ac, to keep it all cool, for the summer temps. The insulation board helps contain smells, and maintain the temps...any extra layer of odor control is great. we wrap the room in pond liner, to control any water leaks, and light leaks. Then we box out the venting that comes out of the room, so they cannot leak. LIGHT LEAKS are insidious, and the #1 enemy of any grower.

I didn't get the insulation board...
before going to the store i saw this...

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showpost.php?p=5766794&postcount=132

and really liked the idea... to my surprise Lowe's was selling rolls of Reflectix so I picked one up... I didn't think about it but it would of been a pain in the ass transporting 4'x8' sheets of insulation board...

And would have looked pretty suspicious bringing into the house...
I would perfer the insulation board but there really was no way possible. If we had a pick up truck it would be a different story lol

Alright good to hear that the refectix will work... I am thinking stape it on? Then on the side I want a door put strips of velcro down like others have mentioned previously...

I really hope my bro brings the plywood home today!

Castout, what did you use for floors and ceiling? plywood?

Got the plywood yesterday! Got to mark and cut out the holes for intake and exhaust today... then screw down the plywood and put up the reflectix and we should be good to go...

I'll try to take some pics later when I work on it...

Hey guys got a little update...

So I got the plywood, cut the hole in the ceiling for bathroom exhaust fan... screwed down the plywood to the frame...

And start stapling the reflectix to the frame to start creating the walls...

Here is how far I got yesterday...

I should finish today... and when the lights come on tonight at 8, I will switch out everything and tonight will hopefully be the first night in their new happy home!

Looking good!

thanks man, it probably wouldn't have came out this good if you didn't help me along the way!

yeah man you got it, I don't have much but here is what I got...

Intake, ghetto intake, I noticed an oppurtunity for an intake due to the way we built the box and it looked like it might be more lightproof than with the grille vent and everything, those things let way too much light through... I can always due something else and just tape it up... this is temporary...

Lighting... 150w HPS, pretty standard...

Exhaust, 50 CFM Bathroom exhaust fan...

Haha that is all the details I have as far as pics go, If you have any questions I would love to answer them and if you have any suggestions I would love to hear them!

Hear is a before and after shot... first pic is in the old can and 2nd pic is in the new one... you can see the additional headroom...

You know, I wasn't planning on it, but I am sure a little extra light penetration can't hurt anything... I will have to see how the temps are and work something out... thanks for the idea...

now that I have more of a square than a rectangle... the 150w HPS seems to have better, more intense coverage...

The CFL's in the old cab were for the far edges of the cab where the light spread wasn't as intense...

ss you did excellent! congrats on a new cab

as for the intake - there is this brilliant yet simply stealth grille that you can build yourself, cannot remember who showed it here (scrub ninja if i reckon well?). i would advise to construct one of these. i will let you know if i find that thread.

besides, looking at your old cab now... i think you could do a perfect scrog in there. maybe use those CFLs (+ throw a few more) and give it another chance? ;)

again - well done, buddy!

peace :smoker:

Thanks KNOTS!

I have seen that thread before, I just don't like purchasing a lot of random items at Home depot/ Lowes... i always feel like they are questioning what I need all these random items for...lol

That design is genius though! I may build one of those, one day...

The old cab is now, the new veg cab... my veg area was ghetto as hell... Pl-l setup resting over the edges of two plastic totes... with the plants underneath in the middle... now they actually have a home... lol

I really think the new cab would be better for scrog but I just can't do it right now.. too many strains and testers...

the new cab is more of an actual square...
the old cab was 35" wide by 18" deep... don't think it would be so good for a scrog...

despite my stoner brain, i remembered right, it was scrub ninja's build.

just found it, please check out for yourself here.

i don't think there is anything suspicious in purchasing elements for this construction ;)

do you purchase online or offline? if the latter is the case then why worry? (frankly i wouldn't worry in case of online either, it is just a pieceof metal, glue and black paint!)

give it a thought, anyway! :)

and soon i wil try to prove that your old cab would accomodate a perfect scrog!

KNOTS, yes that is a great design... I knew it was as soon as I saw the thread a while ago...

The materials for this alone are not suspicious... but I figured plus some lumber, a roll of reflectix, some reflective tape, and a few other things would look weird... but you are right there is not much reason to worry... I am just paranoid with that shit...

I would love to hear your ideas for the old cab but it might not be do-able for a while! plus it's not light proof that's why it got turned into the veg chamber anyway!
