Is my 1000w to much for my tent ???

I have a 1000w Phantom dimmable to 40%, 75%, and 100% I am planning in putting in a 3'x3'x6' tent they recommend 400w for this tent. Would my 1000w be too much for tent? If so, would it still be too much if i dimmed it to 40%?

That is going to come down to how cool you can keep the tent really. A 1000 in an air cooled hood with a/c to the room it is in can be run no sweat.

Yes, 1000w would be too much without a damn good cooling plan. Running air-cooled 600w is probably the max for this size.

what if i dimmed it to 40%? that would be equal to 400w right?

Theoretically, yes. That's 44.4 watts per sq ft. At 60%, it'd be 66.6. As has been said, more than that is inadvisable. Good ventilation is a must in either case, and vent hoods help a great deal in keeping temps down.
