I don't know. vermi is latin for worms isn't it? like in vermicheli pasta "little worms" I think it means? I don't think they're connected I think it's just what they decided to call the mineral for some worm-like feature it had.

but vermiculture would be worm related culture

Week 8 part 1

Week 8 part 1

Hello everyone and welcome to the week 8 update :tiphat:

This week will be a 2-parter as I've begun the process of harvesting the Huckleberry and want to show off some buds

So here we have the week 8 garden overview. As you can see, I've pulled some of the branches of the Mex and Thai down to help with the light penetration to lower buds. More noticably we can see that the Huckleberry Hound has had a bit of a haircut. The top two colas have been chopped and dried and I'm now leaving the lower buds for a week or two to let them mature a little more. I think the harvest may have been a week premature but I was dying for some buds to show off haha.

Anyway the lower buds now form a neat little canopy by themselves, I'm half tempted to see if they'll start forming larger colas but I have a feeling that would take a few weeks if it were possible.

Phwoar look at the size of those buds! The other specimens of this VB X Thai cross I've seen have all produced fairly leafy, stringy buds so this is a real pleasant surprise!

The mex continues to grow with these little discrete bundles of calyxes.

Saying that, some of the lower buds seem to be a bit denser in structure so we'll just have to keep watching and waiting...

Anyway onto exciting photos!

My first ever harvest jar :3 The dry weight of the top colas came to just under 3.5g so not too great but not too bad either, it's the smallest plant of the three after all.

The buds are dried and trimmed so will now be sitting in the jar for a couple of weeks to start curing; check back later for a smoke report!

What do you all think of the trim job? I've never manicured cannabis before so I have a feeling that I was a bit over zealous in some parts and lax in others >.<

In your situation, your trim job is more then fine. assuming you're going to smoke it all yourself and with friends you might as well just trim up your bowls on the spot and keep them looking as nice as possible imo. Especially since this is your first grow, you'll probably want them to look as nice as possible, the leaves you leave on will help to sheath the buds.

From what I can see it looks pretty nice! I would recommend going as long as 70 days on these huckleberries. Let those bottoms ride you will not be disappointed!

Cheers Tony :D I wanted to get a trim done more because DP has recently gotten hold of some bubble bags and I want to get me some hash; the sugar leaves on the buds seem about as frosty as the buds themselves some I'm hoping for some good results :dance013:

My thinking was that with the lower, more uniform canopy, the remaining bud sites will begin to stretch up and form some more primary stem-like colas rather than having a handful of popcorn nugs. At any rate, the top colas were blocking a lot of light and leaving the rest way behind in terms of maturation so hopefully this'll lead to a much higher overall yield :headbange

I see some sugar leaves sticking out of those trimmed buds. I'd chop em off and add them to the hash bag. They don't taste too good to smoke anyway.

well ,looks good enough to smoke.the trim job does not look too bad for a first time.in trimming lingo i would call that a "street trim" lol .practice makes perfect ! if you have only cut the tops out, move the light closer to the lower buds ,to speed up the finish time,or lift the plants up to the light whichever is easiest.good luck and well done .willyweed

Additional comments:
Overall I'm very pleased with the buds so far. The colours are very dark and blend together to make it hard to really identify what's going on. The heavy covering of glands don't help with this but make the buds sparkle in the light in a wonderful way.

Utensils - King-size rizla with added tobacco (Golden Virginia). Not the best way to get the flavor but it's how I'm used to smoking.

Smoke test comments:
I found this a very easy and enjoyable smoke. As always it was conducted with some mind-expanding material (good ol' Peter Hamilton) to aid in the process. Surprisingly a great deal of taste came through despite the tobacco. Overall a very fresh taste, possibly because of the short cure thus far, which for some reason had me thinking of pine trees and the smell of their resin. A few undertones of hash and the usual flowery taste as well as a bit of a smokey flavour which I attribute to the tobacco.

Final comment:
The high from this smoke had a very quick onset, not quite instantaneous but very noticeable within the first few tokes. The stone from this sample has provided a good deal of focus, with no real inhibition of thought processing speed (that I can notice?). Alongside this is a fairly enjoyable ability to bounce from topic to topic whilst retaining this focus; I almost feel like I can't move my eyes from side to side, even if I wanted to. I'm not fully sure how to describe the overall effect of this as you can probably tell, however the book read test and IM conversations are proving very enjoyable. I'm currently blasting out some Soom - T and definitely noticing a lot of subtlties within the music and notes that weren't noticed before. The overall stone is very chilled and calm without any sense of detachment that can sometimes come with this feeling.

Bulldog,

Thank you for the detailed smoke report, It is not often I read my format filled out by someone else, and it really helped me understand how the Huckleberry effected you. Kudos to you for taking the time to fill that out man :tiphat:

It sounds like from your description that there was a lot of influence from the Tre Stardawg in that female. I do hope that you let those bottoms finish out a little while longer.. and maybe give it a boot up towards the light to help her develop a bit.

Thank you again for that report and growing the HH out.

Hey Tony, no worries! I really loved the layout of the report form, it makes it very easy to describe all the aspects of the bud and smoke without having to write a small essay haha. Plus, as you say, it's much easier to make comparisons when the report layout is standardized :)

I do want to move the Huckleberry up closer, however it's so much shorter than the other plants that it's going to need over a foot of support to get it up close to the lighting >.< it's do-able, but I'm going to need to rearrange the garden for it I think.

Week 9

Hello everyone, welcome to the week 9 update!

So everything is looking good and healthy still. The Huckleberry's been moved up closer to the light and seems to be loving it, the lower buds are a good 75-100% bigger at any rate!

Quick snap of the HH buds. You can maybe see one stalk that I've bent over. I heard on ye olde Youtube that supercropping the branch below a cola can result in the flowers themselves also swelling up a lot so thought it'd be worth a try. If it kill the branch then it's only one bud out of many...

I thought I'd get a shot of all the plants in a line though to show how much shorter the Hound is hehe.

The VB Thai is starting to get a little bit top heavy... Might have to get a few more stakes in there...

Porn shot of the VB Thai's main cola!

The Mex continues to do strange things.

I'm not sure how visible it is in this picture, but there seem to be these little yellow patches that don't look like calyxs growing on several of the colas. Does this like hermied?

Better go get the scissors ready

Ah it's not a huge problem, I don't think I'd be able to use the buds on the Mex for much besides hash making anyway. I get the feeling it didn't like being indoors :(
