nug vs trim oil

first off let me say thank you to everybody that contributes here, i have learned a great deal in the past few days from this forum, i wish i had found it sooner, much more grown up than others.ok to business...
i have noticed that extractions done on trim and keif shatter much quicker than nug runs, i was thinking this was because the amount of volatile terpenes is so much less in the trim. what are your guys' thoughts?

Maybe they are not drying the bud enough. Other than that, there should be no difference between nug/trim. The difference is yield.

There is definitely a difference in quality and yield. I notice nug oil shatters up quicker/easier than trim oil. Trim gets me about 7-10% nug gets 15-20%.

Waaaaay better terps in nug oil. Trim oil tastes like trim and nug oil tastes like nugs. This isn't alchemy, more like gold mining. There is a lot more delicious stuff to pull out of nugs. Imo, trim shatters up better because it usually has less moisture content.

Define trim?

If we define trim as the sugar leaf trimmings from the colas, not mixed trim , which includes fan leaves, I would agree that cola oil is more concentrated per unit volume, because sweet trim will have more plant waxes as a percent of oil.

If you winterize, there is less difference in wax content, but the terpenes are also primarily produced by the flowers, so would also ostensibly be less in the trim.

Not to say that trim doesn't produce a tasty potent oil, only will be different than straight flower oil treated exactly the same way.

Most folks don't cure their trim, they leave it out and it gets bone dry, no moisture in the herb no moisture to remove from the oil = easy to make shatter.

I prefer material that still has about 15% moisture content, because it has more of the lighter terpenes still present.
