Transplant/Soil Questions

Can you help me out by checking my process here form first grow (I'm growing 12 pure sativas (6 after picking males/unhealthy females) using the super soil method in 12/12 only [besides seedling phase]:

-after seeds are germinated, put into dixie cups filled with Roots Organics Original potting soil- (I'm guessing this soil won't be too strong for seedling)
-once roots start to come out of the dixie cup drain holes (~2-4 weeks), transplant to 1 gallon pots, after they sex switch them to 10 gal buckets where plant will stay for the rest of the grow - 1) Is transplanting twice okay or should I just skip the 1 gallon and go straight to 10 gal? only reason Im putting them in a 1 gallon is to save on soil since I'll be removing half my plants (12 -> 6)

Sounds like a solid plan. How are you planning on sexing them? Switching to 12/12 or vegging in the 1G pots till they show preflowers? If you can clone, then clone them all while they're in the 1G pots, label each cutting to each pot, then flower them in 1G pots. You will know which clones are females and which females are worth keeping.

Your plan is solid too though, you should have no problems doing that unless you plan on switching to 12/12 to sex them. Flowering plants don't like to be transplanted.

I plan on vegging for 7 days then 12/12 for the rest of the grow to ensure they don't get too big.

okay so I should basically take clones on the last days of veg (6-7)

It sounds like one gallons are better to end up in there is no way you can utilize a ten gallon pot for such a young plant.

Yeah, I could even do 2 gallons. would would be better for the first month (besides first 7 days in dixie cup), 1 gal or 2 gal?

You could give them a bigger pot but I don't think they would fill it.

It really depends on how much waste you want or how often you want to water I suppose.

well maybe you should use the cheap 2 gallon grow bags (plastic & come in packages of 20 pcs) and then move to 5 gallon grow bags later you can also go with a 5 gallon bucket if you have alot of space and they only cost 3 bucks each after tax at lowes or home depot just drill /cut drainage holes in bottom

ok, but I will be using 10 gallon after 1 or 2 gallon buckets. How many drainage holes & how big & what shape should they be for a 10 gal bucket?
