thoughts on this bud?

traded some of my stash for something a friend had...forget the strain name, but this came from either CA or CO.

Now, in my area this is the type of stuff people compare all other herb to, so when I show up with fat nugs full of trics that still have some leaf material on them I get looked at like I have three heads.

To me, this bud looks like it is overly trimmed

I know this pic sucks, but at the moment its the best I can do.

Shit: Grown for money by people who don't care about you or the weed. It is tightly trimmed and what your friends want, even if its been hacked/kiffed.

People that are buying don't want leaf on there nugs. I don't trim that close either. Its very hard to tell what you have there with a pic. If she is potent, smells great, taste great with high yields she's a keeper.

The bud I showed in the picture is pretty much only "ok". It has a nice smell to it, and tastes good, but it is not very potent. Especially compared to what I grow. If I had bought a bag of this and paid the asking price Id be pretty pissed...

I really don't understand the the stigma so many stoners associate with "homegrown" bud.

Many of the guys I know that are hardcore stoners simply refuse to cater to anyones homegrown kind bud, they are always seeking out the stuff thats imported..honestly, I would take a fat leafy nugget covered with trics any day over some imported, compressed, overly trimmed and possibly tumbled ganja.

I don't know if its the fact that they know or suspect that someone grew it at their own home and have an issue with getting herb from that person because they know they grew it and think it should be free or almost free, or the fact that the imported stuff such as Ive shown in the above pic "looks prettier" than homegrown...

I just laugh when sheeple turn their nose up at my slightly leafy buds. If it's frosty it stays. But i do admit, i do like the look of a nicely trimmed bud.

I can't see it being this because unless it's homegrown as in someone who doesn't have a clue about growing and harvested early, most other homegrown is way pretty has much better bag appeal then any imported commercial crap.

More likely it's a matter of perception and lack of things to compare to. A person who has only smoked the commercial stuff has no fair basis upon which to judge home grown. Back in the 70's I remember that a lot of people in my area tried growing weed even though they didn't know what they were doing. Their end product being this very green, harsh, nasty tasting homegrown that was mostly dried up leaves with no visible triches and so home grown became synonymous with schwag. Anyone turning down home grown from an experienced grower without trying it is likely a fool with this kind of pre-conceived notion of home grown.

As for trimming well leaf has a very distinct an unpleasant harsh flavor in my opinion and so when I trim I try to get every bit of leaf out that I can without mangling the bud too much. I do save that trim and make hash with it but I prefer my bud be as leaf free as possible.

Trimming is a product of prohibition. I bet once things are legal, less handled buds will be the word. I peel off fans when wet and keep my persie untrimmed. Peace GS

As for trimming well leaf has a very distinct an unpleasant harsh flavor in my opinion and so when I trim I try to get every bit of leaf out that I can without mangling the bud too much. I do save that trim and make hash with it but I prefer my bud be as leaf free as possible.

I had a chance to scientifically a-b compare (ok, I ran out of time on the last few buds)
a very tasty strain and trimmed tight and a very rough trim.
Same plant, same branch, same jar.

The high was exactly the same but the tight trim was far tastier and smoother.

The research may not be rigorous enough for a peer reviewed paper in Nature Magazine
but I'm with you Hemp.

Tight trim is the best trim

What you lose in time, you make back with hash. Fair trade.
I might feel different if I sold commercially but I don't and only have to please myself.

And a small circle who get free weed so I haven't heard any complaints.

Yeah trimming tightly vs not trimming didn't/doesn't make any noticeable difference in the quality of the high, just in how enjoyable it is getting there. Plus like you said what you lose in time you make back in hash. Plus I know this is kind of silly but somehow I always have trouble using good smokable buds for making hash and hash oil and so by trimming the way I do I have plenty of good material to work with for hash and hash oil without having to sacrifice any bud if I don't want to.

Oh ya, tight trimmed bud can be because they are removing bug damage or powdery mildew etc. Lame commercial tricks. Peace GS
