Questions regarding Coco hempy

i've been growing with coco hempy buckets as long as i can remember and enjoy it.

recently thinking of supplementing coco with worm casting..

i always run into nitrogen problems early flower and would like a way around it, preferably organic so decided to get some EWC.

Will it be possible to simply add a 1/2 cm layer of ewc over the coco hempy bucket so each watering runs through this first? will it have any effect on ph if using so little..

curious if the worm casting will be broken down quick enough for plants to use, any clue how long it can take?

lastly I have plants 4 days into flower, any negative effects if add a layer of castings to the coco or is it to late if flowering..

i know its great for veg not sure about bloom.. using canna coco npk 5-4-3 which i feel is a low npk..

any idea on this?.. am i missing something? will it cause problems..

thanks in advance

peace

This is my first year growing (with worm castings in the soil), but I say LONG! Mixed in the soil, a few months? As a top dressing, even longer. Depends on the size of the castings. Maybe grind them up very small, like a powder, to speed things up. Nice ideas... I like your thinking.

good points. Never expected it would take as long as that. Makes sense now why some add the worm castings to coco when planting in veg.

I'll try the worm casting and coco during veg in a month or so.

will probably be better to make a tea for the plants like you guys said, can always be foliar fed..

if anyone else would like to chip in their thoughts on this...

Try this soil mix: 1/3 soil, 1/3 coco hair, 1/3 worm castings. Mix together well.

1. 1st 2 weeks of 12/12 I feed my coco hb's with veg nutes (no worm castings) following instructions on canna nutes so I don't get any problems with lack of N in early flower.

2. During flower you want to drop N anyway so I don't see what the problems are if your buds are growing as they should. My leaves always yellow/lime green mid - late flower as it's supposed to. I've never used worm castings but if I did it would be in veg and not flower.

3. Are you sure the plant is lacking N? I use canna nutes too and when my plants look "off" I feed half a teaspoon of epsom salts (cheap in all major chemists. I got mine from Boots) and they're fine in a week. what's your ph? I aim for 5.9

sounds like a good plan to combat early yellow leaves issue. will just keep giving them veg nutrients until the stretch is over.. cheers for the tip bud.

reason for keeping N through flower is just personal preference.. trying to keep plants as healthy as possible till flush.. for diff reasons i guess.

got me some epsoms too.. hardly using it to be honest since the tap water is very hard so normally just a matter of adjusting PH or worst case add epsom salts..

I'm taking a diff aproach with mg.. 6 days into flower i gave them i light dose and will give one again at week 3..

also heard foliar epsom week 3 of flower is great... going to try it out this time to see..

start of the week Ph going in 5.5. 3rd feed 5.9 so in a week it drifts from 5.5-6.1.. not sure if its good but i get worried leaving the PH steady through out not covering other elements..

tempted to try out 6-6.4ph after reading someone here recommend it... any thoughts on this?

Well Hempy himself uses 6.2ph and he invented the method.

Just follow the instructions on the nutes bottle and read the plants. Different strains/phenos feed less than others.

I use epsom salts now and again during veg and even less in flower, but only when the leaves tell me to.

Again, I don't think it's a good idea to give plants too much N in flower. You might get nice big fat green leaves (a big no no), but you'll also get a harsher tasting bud.

I use a 25/5/5 supplement in early and mid flower. If I don't then I get purple stalk and purple fan leaves. I use KISS method in coco plus molasses. Since I'm flushing for the last week or so anyway I don't see how it hurts to add 25/5/5 almost all the way through flower if the plant seems to require it. Having said that I do back off on the 25/5/5 a little in late flower.

thanks for the reply guys.. i have a better idea on how to approach it this time!

This run i'm going to use left over Dutch Masters nutrients, can't figure it out.. they recommend ph 5.5 - 5.8 where as i'm trying to reach 6.2.. any idea if it will work? otherwise might consider using the canna instead with a recommend Ph of 5.5 - 6.5..

what you think

You can't base healthy looking plants on nutes alone. You'll always get yellow leaves in areas of low light and poor air quality.

What lights you using?
