Relax hemp is used as animal feed across the EU. Why do you think we still buying seeds so freely after all these years. You can't restrict animal feed, farming would grind to a halt!

I would be more worried about what is going to happen to the EU food crop seeds if that went thru. Most cannabis seed is produced and sold illegally anyways. I think the opening American markets, both legal and medical are going to really give some competition to the EU seed industry.

As more states go medical and legal it will be easier to sell seeds within the US and EU seed vendors will probably lose a lot of business.

This would mean any seeds not produced by major companies wouldn't be able to be sold any more

Hemp would be ok, but if you want Nirvana Cheese you'd be in trouble, unless Gypsy merges with Monsanto... Which would make things more interesting

Way more impact here than on the cannabis seed market. This sort of regulation allows the likes of Monsanto, Dow and Bayer to become the global providers of seed stock. Not a good thing if you ask me.

Eu tries to make all seeds what hemp seeds already are.
Farmers that grow hemp cant use their own seeds from the crop because then its possible for the hemp plant to produce more thc than the seed stock from the company so they are dependant on the seed producer.
I can imagine this will also apply to normal food crop, they will say " hey you cant grow your seeds because theres a POSSIBILITY your plants dont have the resistency to this or that pest so you have to buy seeds that provide that"

anyone see the old movie "Soylent Green"....veggies were against the laws of the land.

Now here is the real issue...if those in the EU had not given up their rights to bear arms way back when, they would be able to make a stand and tell the EU to back the fuck up...

If I want to change policy I'll e-mail a representative or sign a petition, something like this is a awful thing but still a thing that can be opposed with reason, yes companies will always try to pass laws like to increase their monopolies over us, but we're the customers :-/ and it's human nature for crooks to try to get jobs in politics where they have power.
To stop problems like this you'd have to take up arms against companies and banks, not governments and unions...
Capitalism always breeds monopolies and monopolies crave safety (for themselves) and greater profits for the few stock holders.
Even something this serious isn't incontravertable, we need reason and transparency and armed uprising rarely forms new governments any better than the last.
The Tsar kept people in poverty, the communists were underfunded and corrupt, their descendents are the new oligarchy, rich plutocrats with huge sway forming thier own patriarchys. there's a reason they're called revolutions, they go round 360 degrees right back to where they started

well 'rejects' makes it sound like ALL of this totalitarian legislation is off the table, which it isn't.

very simple ploy: ask for much more than you actually want and people will think they have won if they get some concessions.
nevermind all the other stuff.

;)

Well by 'reject' we all know they mean 'postponed until we can figure out how to reword the legislature'. It never ceases to amaze me that

a) This kind of monopoly-creating legislature is put on the books routinely, with each seperate proposal requiring public effort to tell these politicians (whom we haven't voted for?) that actually signing away all economic freedoms to international corporations is a really really bad move.

b) You never hear a single word about any of this in the overwhelming majority of news sources.

Saying that, I'm not really amazed. We live in such a fucked up world :(

It's really bullshit. But in the long term there will always be the TOR network and black market for seeds. They can't kill us!
