Trim Scissors

I lost my favorite pair of trim scissors (fiskars stitchers) so I had to run out today and grab a replacement. JoAnn fabrics has a 50% off coupon in the front of the store that's valid until Friday and another coupon for 50% off that's valid this weekend. Picked up a nice pair of fiskars for $5. I'm definitely gonna head back and grab a few more pairs. You can never have enough scissors.

Fiskars only requires a $500 order for your first wholesale purchase. Yaaaay!

Awesome! Been loving their products for decades. Only company I've ever picked up an axe from and went... "WOW! That was AWESOME!" when I used it.

Badass stuff. :)

ARS scissors

"Always Really Sharp"

Look em up. Made in Japan and some of the nicest scissors I've ever clocked some hours behind.

Watch your fingers. They are really sharp. ;)

I've used fiskars for years. Swore by them. Until I picked up a pair of these cheap scissors at a grocery store. The tips are very pointy, and feel good in the hand. Not to mention they were $5

I've tried a lot of these fiskars and honestly don't see what all the love is about.

I know many don't like to patronize the hydro store, but these "precision pruners" have a much nicer feel in my opinion. Makes my fiskars feel like a chore to use now. These are much sharper and much smoother in operation.

But if ya don't like the spring loaded stuff, for real.. check out the ARS scissors. I've found no scissors that came close to the quality of these.

They are both available in a curved blade model, but I've never tried those myself.

Got a pair of these little things on order to see how they feel.

The reigning Fiskers have that wonderful sharp point that is wonderful for scraping off any sugar leaves on final trim, but their short length and stiff spring make them a poor choice for overall trimming.

The generic growstore scissors like the Hydrofarm model above, have the length needed for fan leaves and initial trim-out and a more relaxed spring action, but dull easily and lack a sharp enough point for a clean finish. However the worst part about the generic trimmers is the piss-poor pivot point that adds a lot of uneven drag and strain to the process.

The ARS model makes you work in both directions because there is no return spring, but the pivot action is so incredibly smooth you really don't notice. Their sharpness seems unaffected by the corrosive effects of the cannabis plant acids, and the curved model allows improved access to those leaf bases imbedded in dense bud. My only demerit for the ARS scissors is the lack of a fine point.

Actually, I find a place for all three in my alcohol jar, Generic for a rough wet trim off all the thick stemmed fan leaves, ARS for a fine finish to the wet buds, followed by a final pre-bagging touch-up with the Fiskers.

That is pretty much what I do.. shuffling them in and out of a glass of 90% ISO.

I havnt been using those hydrofarm titanium units for very long, but they seem to be a slightly improvement over the normal stainless ones that we've all seen for years.

I have noticed that throughout several sets that they would not always have the same resistance. I've played around with swapping springs (even using the fiskars spring on the hydrofarm shears), but found the most noticeable improvement by slightly loosening the screw at the pivot point.

This has made a world of difference and now all my shears give me little resistance and feel smoother then ever.

Of course I end up cutting branches with them at some point and slightly bend them. After that I just have to throw them away and buy new. I got some heavy duty shears now for all stalk cutting and hopefully will keep my micro tip shears nice.

These seem way overpriced. I think I'll stick with the Fiskars for 6$. I can buy three for the price of one of those.

Keep a cup full of rubbing alcohol and clean them off every 30 minutes. That's what I do at least. I use a razor to scrap the hash off and then dip them in the cup. Makes trimming much easier.

I get the titanium ones locally for $13 and the normal stainless ones for $10.

I still personally like the feel way better then then fiskars. If trimming by myself I don't need more then 2 pairs. I work with a pair and keep another on deck in 90% ISO.

I received this pair that I posted about earlier. They are tiny compared to what I thought they'd look like. I'll try to post up an actual shot.

They'll likely go into the junk drawer. Cool, but not sure how practical.
