The Aardvarks 600 Watt HPS Vertical Light Mover Grow Show

That is right folks, I have decided to switch over to the darkside for a minute and see how my 600 hps digi quantum can perform vertically.

The really cool part however is that instead of the light mover going left to right it will be moving UP and DOWN :woohoo:

I am working on the 4x8 area currently and will be posting video and pics once I take a break from cleaning up, building etc.

Depending on the final plant count to be used in the room, I might add led panels behind the plants for additional lighting.

I have been working on a vertical light mover setup in my head for too many years and I just realized I have EVERYTHING I need to get it going so wtf am I doing !!!!!!:tumbleweed:

GET IT BUILT DAMN IT,

i know what you are thinking already. slip off to the darkside if you must. but you'll be back with plan in hand

Good luck with with your project, not sure what you mean but I will keep an I out for pictures soon.

it will be rockin it for sure

Not sure if I am leaving completely, all depends on what panels if any make sense once setup. It will come down to penetration AND just like with LEDs I would like to see what sort of efficiency I can hit with my 600 quantum and plantmaxx bulb as far as grams per watt goes.

general updates for my growing future
I will be doing a side by side

600 hps versus 600 leds

once I get the new led panels that I want to test.

I can also setup a couple led panels to move UP and DOWN as well but that will come later IF it makes sense.

Moving a bare bulb 600 hps is much easier than two led panels on a diy vertical light mover.

Setting panels vert behind the plants however is something that might come into play.

Everything is up in the air. I finished up an article for a grow mag and can't wait to see when it gets put in WOOHOO but other than that just bored and trying to test random ways to grow I guess LOL

I also have a couple more strains that will be going in as well. I found some freebies from old seed bank orders that I want to run through.

They are all fem and is exactly why I haven't ran them yet, I am not a big fem bean guy and love running regular BUT I need to get these beans in dirt before the viability hits the dirt first

Hey medmaker.. It might be easier to look at 80watt corn cob LEDs u could put them above and below the 600 on the mover.. Should be easier to do than panels.. I have wanted to see some do a vert with mutiple corn cob bulbs.. I'd be all over it if I was Ina med state..

Good luck with ur build..

If I were to use the panels I would put two of the 200x3w panels or the 180x3w panels back to back so the light mover only has to go up and down a minimal distance.

To add additional leds, they would have to be from what I currently have on hand as I am not planning on buying anything new led wise until this specific panel I am awaiting comes out.

I do agree that the corn cob style ( within the correct spectrum that is ) would work hand in hand with the 600 however the penetration capabilities of smaller led lights and a 600hps is very different so I see it making more sense to hang them independent and closer to the canopy.

Like I said though, everything is up in the air and I love the different ideas. I have one design that has a ton of small led lights strung all over the place and using fans to "wave" the lights left/right/front/back just enough so the lights will always be moving a bit and hitting the plants from random angles all the time and from multiple lights strung all over the place.

Who knows though, I have 12 led panels on hand, maybe I will put all of them in the 4x8 along with the 600hps in the middle LOL

we will all find out together

I am currently sorting seeds from the 9 different crosses that I did with the 2 cheesedog males. It looks like I have a TON of beans to sort which seems to take forever BUT pics/videos to come once done.

Keep goin

Pullin up a chair for this one...good luck, sounds interesting!!

Vertical annoyed me personally because I couldn't see straight after tending the garden. I could feel my eyes getting damaged. (not good...be careful btw) But I know lots of people not only have success with it...but swear by it!!

Like others..looking forward to images of your set up.

Again, Good Luck

I have done large vertical stadium grows using multi 1k hps bulbs and know exactly what you are talking about as far as light blinding issues.

The key when running vert is to have a "blinder" in front of the bulbs direct light hitting you. I either tossed a hat, a piece of board OR turned the bulbs off and put on secondary lighting while tending so I didn't have to deal with it.

With this one however it is just a single 600hps in the middle of plants which will be used to block any direct light trying to hit me when opening the tent.

Dual 600 Watt Vertical Light Mover Setup

Dual 600 Watt Vertical Light Mover Setup

Here is part 1 of me setting up the dual 600 watt vertical light mover setup.

[YOUTUBEIF]iNBVGDt6Q-g[/YOUTUBEIF]

with it this way there will be room for plants in 3 locations versus simply surrounding a single bulb BUT still not sure if I want to run 1200 watts in this setup versus simply testing a single 600 watts grams per watts while running vertically. I haven't seen any vertical light mover grows anywhere and kind of want to see how efficient they really can be and using single bulbs makes calculations more accurate and removes alot of what ifs as in one bulb/ballast combo simply performing better than the other and scewing the results more than I would like.

It is just hard to take down something that seems to work perfect with a dual bulb system. time will tell as far as what I do

a new video is almost done uploading which shows the dual 600 watt bulbs going up and down in the 4x8 tent.

I am stoked to finally have this setup

woohoo

Here is the dual 600's

Here is an update video with the bulbs moving up and down as well as commentary about potentially KEEPING both bulbs in the tent versus my original single 600.

HELL YEAH .. A COUNTRY BOY CAN SURVIVE. Looks good .. I like idea of the 2 spectrum and moving the plants around for life cycle.. I think some shelves in there to do some stadium like grow would be good use wire for the shelving so u don't block any light....it will be interesting how much u can yield of the setup..
