Coco outdoors?

Gonna do a few soil/coco outdoor plants this year with the used coco from my indoor plants. Got me thinking about doing a 100% coco hempy, though i'm not sure how well it will work due to rain throwing ph off
Anyone here use coco outdoors? Do you have to cover the coco so the rain water can't get to it? Really want to see the difference between my indoor and outdoor 100% coco plants. Same strain, same nutes, only difference would be environment

And slightly off topic, is it better to prepare soil months before growing or as you plant out? Will be using compost, coco, dolomite and blood n bone. Asked over in the outdoor forum but didn't get any answers..

I don't think that coco is a good choice for hempy buckets.
But, I could be wrong.
I have used coco as a support for some DWC.
And I have used coco outdoors in a greenhouse.

So, mine get sun, but no rain.
They get plain tap water with hydro nutes.

It's the tropical sunlight that make the difference here.
Sunlight drives the plant hard, and coco will hand off nutes faster than soil, so it's an excellent combo.

It's best to mix your soil in advance.
That gives it time for minerals to break down and become available and for the micro-herd to get established
I'm thinking the dolomite should buffer the rainwater PH
And most rainwater is very soft, almost distilled.
So, I don't see it being a problem.

I live in New Zealand, we get a good hot dry long summer. This year in fact we had a drought. Watering will not be an issue in this location so if we have another summer like last one i'm expecting some pretty massive plants.

As for the hempy, i'll try to make some sort of cover to keep rain out, but it won't be 100% effective. Anyone have suggestions on what size container? Can get hold of 60L and 100L drums. Thinking a 100L cut in half would be heaps maybe too much?

I'm aiming for a lb from the hempy so how much coco does one need for 1lb?

I use coco outdoors, pure, it works great, plus you can actually flush your weed properly.

Canna COCO @2ml/L

No soil grower has yet managed to explain to me how they can do this.

Used coco works very well as a soil conditioner, but it is not longer "coco"... it is just soil with a good amendment for breathability, like peat but better on the Green/Sustainability front.

indeed, coco works great outdoors. in fact a whole lot of the tomato and other crops grown in greenhouses in south spain in extreme conditions like here, is grown in coco. coco has the benefit of beeing a great natural isolation material, keeping the roots cooler.

in my experience its a good idea to go for as BIG pots as you can, specially since you mention you live in a hot dry climate, it sounds a lot like the conditions we have down here (or up here?lol)

the plants tend to use up the water faster in coco since the growth rate is increased. watering every day is a must even in really big pots during peak season. covering the top layer of the coco will help to keep moisture from evaporating untill the plants are big enough to shade it themself.

have fun!
