Strains with great taste. :)

Hello!

Its rare when i smoke a strain with a fruity or sweet taste to it in a joint / bong / pipe ...

Last week i harvested one Kaya 47 (Advanced Seeds) with a really citrusy/lemony type of smell, so GOOD,almost a fresh smell!
Yesterday i smoked one 0.7 gr joint with my friend ,the taste was just like burned herb, very hot smoke...
Why is this?
My Bubblegummer (Female Seeds) was very sweet and tasty,my Blue Mystic (Nirvana) was really fresh,woody,pineapple!...

My question is why some strains just taste like burned herb and others taste so good?

My Buds:
-Organic medicine
-They smell very nice
-Well dried
So i dont know what is the problem.

Maybe this strains with not a lot of taste when smoked, need to be cured to bring the taste?
I just cured one time one Bubblelicious (Nirvana) and the taste was very sweet...

So i appreciate some help because i like my buds with an awesome taste!

Ps: Say the name of some strains with great taste and smell in your own experience.

chernboyl turned heads when i pulled that one out.

straight lemon lime astringent funk,
akin to a MJ version of sprite

Next time around, try simon's curing method for at least a month, with humidity meter & boveda packs. Some herb needs a good cure to have good flavor. Some stuff will never have good flavor, unfortunately, but a good cure won't hurt it, nor likely will a flush some days before harvest.

Blueberry & Sweet tooth lines supposedly have good flavor, as do super lemon haze, shiva & agent orange. Kush varieties are supposedly tasty. Lots of others, I'm sure.

That's hearsay on my part, having recently returned to the world of weed after a very long absence. My experience with modern varieties is lacking, to say the least. I intend to try 'em all, given the opportunity...

Kaya was developed as a tough outdoor strain, while AK was bred for potency. I doubt that flavor was much of a consideration in either case....

Hello man :) i feel happy everytime i see a response like this one...

I grow organically but i flush one week before harvest.
I just cured my bubblelicious because it was an ounce of it, i was very poor in yields, 15/20 gr per plant(Smoking all the buds in one week with my friends=not so much time for cure)after that i worked more hard with some early topping and training the plants, bending the branches down creating more bushy plants...30/40 gr per plant now :D

I have a Dj Short Blueberry! Day 35 of Flowering Today! Haha.

I dont know if you can try all, so many strain nowadays! :blowbubbles:

Yeah man, the Kaya 47 is very strong in terms of high, with not a bad yield for the veg time and little training , 28gr :)
10 grams left,im gonna let it cure for 5 months or so Hahaha.
The smell is amazing, when i open the jar , wow.
The taste is just "Burned taste" and i hate that type of taste.
Need to see what the curing process brings to this one.

If you haven't read simon's thread on curing, here it is-

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?threadid=156237

His experience, and my own from years ago, is that once the moisture content goes too low for curing that rehydrating the stuff won't start the cure back up again. So it's important to bring the dryness down in a monitored & controllable way, then hold it at the right level over time.

I'm rapidly learning that it's easier said than done to get ahead of the game far enough to smoke cured stash. That's particularly true when you have help making it disappear as fast as you can grow it...

I found a great tasting pheno in a pack of super lemon haze ... has zero lemon taste to it, but it's the best skunky/hazy flavor.

Sour Bubble is right up there too ...

hey there medicate,

your first question, why some strains taste better than others?... well if a plant has a good smell and taste poor or has a weak taste... it is likely either just a less than desirable phenotypic expression and you need to grow more seeds of that strain to find a good one or the breeder didn't select for or make proper selections for those traits...

your second question, can curing give it a good taste?... curing is just an elongated drying process that allows the smoke to mellow while bring out nuances and enhancing the flavors already present... but typically it should already be good before the cure begins and curing just makes some strains that much better but if it doesn't have a pleasant taste at all then curing it isn't going to impart that to your buds...

so just keep clones of the good plants you find if you can and keep looking through more and more seeds to find the ones that best suit your needs

hope this helps

It sure helped! thank you.

Im taking clones! :)

So the conclusion is: Bad phenotype right? or some genetics are made more for good yields or good potency putting aside the taste or even the smell... :tiphat:

exactly!

and as far as curing goes definitely learn how to do it as well as possible, because all plants do benefit from it, though some strains like bubba kush only needs a couple weeks in the jar to cure perfectly and will begin to lose some smell and taste after to much longer, other strains keep getting better and better when cured and stored correctly 3,6,9 months or more down the road

C99? I know that one! :) Isnt it very heady and racy?

Yes, but ime, more racy than heady. Some phenos are quite heavy in yield, although I've found the lesser yielding phenos usually have a better taste/smell. And also can be a quick finisher as well. :)

I cure them when they are a little dry but still have some moisture, i open the jar 1 / 2 times a day to let some moisture go out and some new air in, after a week doing this or 2 weeks i stop doing it... :)

I had Bubba Kush from GHS (not the real one but ok.) very earthy with a hint of fuel. :D
