hush's closet

Life got in the way of my gardens for a little while, but I'm back. During my hiatus, I was only able to hold on to 2 of my mother plants: Sadhu and Point of No Return. I was also able to top the 7 Lemon Skunks I had flowering at the time, and those are rooting in some compost plugs right now. So, basically, I'm kind of starting over again, except, I have genetics ready to go this time.

It all happens inside of a bedroom closet. We already had a carbon filter and 6" fan in there because that is where the cats litter box is. So it made sense to use the same closet to grow in. My setup consists of a small, 30" x 16" x 36" tall cabinet that I use for mothers and cuttings, lit by a 2 x 24w fluorescent fixture. A computer fan exhausts the air. Then for flowering I have a DR60 grow tent, 2' x 2' x 5' tall, lit by an air-cooled 400w MH/HPS. This one exhausts with a 6" duct booster fan. The odors from the gardens and the cat box are passed through a large carbon filter and through the wall to another room. That's my entire setup.

The first thing I did to get started up again was I changed everything over to soil and pots. That way my wife would start helping. Then I threw the PNR mother plant under the 400w metal halide, and set the timer for 12/12:

That leaves me with just one mother plant in the small cabinet, the Sadhu, which is just freshly rooted... also, the Lemon Skunk clones (along with one yellowing, spare Sadhu clone):

That at least gets me started. This will be a kind of perpetual harvest type setup now. I'm not sure what's going into the DR60 next, but for now, it's PNR by herself. I'll take cuttings from her in a week or so, in order to keep her as a mother, and I'll also be switching the bulb over to HPS. I'm considering mod scrog screens.

This will be my new ongoing journal. Feel free to comment if you'd like.

Here's the PNR at day 10, after a bunch of LST:

She is being fed a half tsp of DynaGro Grow per gal with every watering. Eventually I'll switch to a bloom formula.

Today I put a freshly rooted lemon skunk clone in the tent, so that means I now have an LST'd plant on day 14 and a SOG plant at day 0. Not bad if I can keep putting a plant in there every 14 days or so. I'll stick with a perpetual SOG from here on out if I can. Once the first plant is harvested I should be able to fit 16 plants in there altogether, if I keep flowering them right after rooting them.

I do need to change my lighting in the mother cabinet, though. 2 x 24w of T5's just isn't cutting it for fast enough growth to make clones on a regular basis. I think it would be perfect for just keeping mother plants alive and healthy, when they are "off season" but for production out of a mother plant I need to upgrade the lighting.

So, I'm going to purchase a 2 x 55w power compact to replace it. Twice the light in the same size fixture. That ought to make my sadhu give me some cuts faster! She is definitely looking beautiful right now though... it's just, all her branches are staying close to the stem.

I also just planted a few new seeds today:

I'm going to flower out the silver LA and the stacked Kush in the tent, after they are a few inches tall. The super silver (from dinafem) will actually be veg'd out a bit, and will be going into a vertical T5HO sativa grow cab I'm working on. It's not ready yet, but won't need to be for another month or so.

Here are my new seedlings... I might have waited to long for the stacked Kush!

That stacked kush does look a bit on the stretchy side :D

Other than that, things are looking good. Love the look of your PNR. Great job!

Today I planted all 3 seedlings, and took 4 cuttings from the sadhu mother. I also fed the point of no return its first dose of bloom nutes (flora nova). I waited too long to do this, too... It's suffering from P deficiency. But it'll bounce back... It's a hardy plant.

The lemon skunk appears not to be enjoying the slightly warm 81 degrees the tent hovers at these days. Hopefully it will adjust.

During the hottest part of the day it climbs up to about 82 but normally it stays around 79. It's all about the air cooled hood, in my opinion.

It's getting unruly in the tent!

All the Lemon Skunks I've pulled out of the CFL cab have ended up in here, plus the original LS that was put in here from the beginning, and today I've added 2 freshly rooted Sadhu clones.
