SoG question

Hi everyone,

I have a question about running a SoG grow. It seems like they aren't as popular nowadays as they once were. Is this due to plant count limits in certain states? Or have other methods surpassed it?

I was thinking about running a 4x4 1000 watt SoG with 4 plants/sq ft. I assume most people do ebb and flow with that many plants. What about bottomfeeding coco? It seems like running drippers to each plant would be a nightmare.

I understand yield is difficult to estimate. 1 g/watt = 1000 grams / 64 plants = 15.625 grams per plant. If I did a perpetual harvest, I could harvest 16 plants every 2 weeks for a yield of 8 oz. Does that sound realistic for a strain like C99?

I can't speak to the rest of your post, but bottom-feeding coco IS a breeze, and brilliantly simple. Try it! You won't miss the feed lines or extra timers one bit.

I use one gallon containers of coco in ebb and flow. Flood twice a day. There is a tendency for salt build up in the upper portion of the media but it can be dealt with by periodic top watering with tap water.

Yes plant numbers are most of the reason people are getting away from a true SoG.

Yes bottom feeding is fine, just pay attention to what Crusader Rabbit says.. you can also add DripClean to your res to help with the salt build up.

If you don't mind hand feeding I would suggest 2 liter bottles. From rooted clones straight to 12/12 and your 15.625 grams per plant is attainable. The medium I use is 75% perlite 25% vermiculite. It is called a passive hydro.

Thanks for the information everyone... Very helpful. Do people doing high density SoG like this usually keep mothers or do they just cut clones off each batch of plants before they go into flower?

I used to keep mothers and i still do. I used to rock ebb and flow with a passion. I have even had them packed tighter than that too. With only four per square they should have a little room to put on some weight. Having a trellis netting is a must in my book, especially if your using rockwell cubes and the plants get big and top heavy. I have never done coco, but i did have a setup where i bottom fed only and it worked great. Sea of green is awesome, it's just lots of work. By the way you type it seems that you have some experience , so i say go for it. There isn't anything you won't be able to figure out yourself, and if you can't were all here to help you.

Thanks. I'm still a new grower but I do read a lot.

Another question: 64 individual containers seems like it might be a pain. Are there any problems with putting 4 clones in a 12"x12" container? They would all be from the same mother of course. That way I would only have 16 containers, and it might be easier to manage.
