Farmers Market

okay so I know some of you probably think I must be high as balls to even think it, but I'm seriously asking here.

could you possibly (if the organizers were willing that is) set up a collective at a farmers market?

I'm not talking about 385 oz's or $20 clone collective, I'm talking a real and true actual COLLECTIVE of farmers doing some REAL GOOD for the movement. (direct to consumer/patient equates into a lower cost for them)

I see no legal reason as to why they would be explicitly forbidden. Much less as to why they could discriminate against a potential market vendor in the first place.

of course it wouldnt be like "sure yeah bring some pounds, i'll bring the doritos!"

It would probably be met with resistance at first, however I would never expect something that is worth it to be easy to accomplish.

Me and you seem to have differences here on this site but on this I agree with you.

I was actually talking to someone tonight who has never smoked pot in their life and was as sober as a judge and I was explaing the current situation (dispensary=illegal, collective=legal and Jerry's guuidlines) and she said to me:

"You know, that sounds an awful lot like a farmers market".

I thought to myself, "you're right".

lol, I've read a lot of threads, I've read a lot of your posts, I never knew we had our differences, never really interacted with ya. but yeah for real I mean if you think about it, the definition of "collective" is tied towards 'groups of farmers' really.

yeah were a group of farmers. only our herbs are better :biglaugh:

our herbs are different, not better, lol........i still need food......but i agree with you that the concept is grand........and no doubt needs more exploring...... on a side note, not only is mj critical as treatment, but no doubt when we are ill, healthy foods are essential also, why not have the two go hand and hand, providing both essentials to our patients? Perhaps the comingling of non-mj and mj farmers would also help advance the situation.

Actually, I am part of a group of patients in so cal that are just about ready to open our collective/farmers market. This will definitely bring the prices down as we will have all growers competing.

You CAN have a non profit organization and still make a living...it just has to be reasonable. NO 6 or 7 figure incomes.

I used to agree with the argument that you have to sell meds at high prices because of the overhead and risk. Overhead is minimal. In my opinion, you raise the level of risk BY charging high prices. Have you ever thought of the VOLUME that most "dispensaries" deal with?

I believe that profit isn't a bad thing, but until it is legalized, play with the rules the Ca Attorney General has given us (for those in Ca) and it will make the road to complete legalization much less bumpy.

Along with most other issues, only the negative elements make it to the mainstream media and when you have people running dispensaries claiming to be NFP and they are driving high dollar vehicles and earning 6 figures plus, there is a problem.

Just my opinion.

Alright your on to summthin here ourcee, this is exactly what I would like to do in so-co is start a growers association kinda like a farmers market, hell I wouldn't mind seeing it someday @ the farmers market.. but this is what I would like to see happen this would open it up for those who want to stay with local quality/ farmers can compare product folks could get up close and personal with the grower etc etc..

there are some Farmers markets in WA and have been for a while, these are the ones I would like to model my sytem after very open/very chill it's more like a growers club though.. I was talking this up to a kid here at the grow shop his reaction " I don't think the growers wanta see there prices drop" wtf does that have to do with a farmers market? I'll tell you what you already know, they are trying to protect there market.. Some point in time I will try to start posting my efforts on IC see if it pans out!

The farmers market in Lake County started back in 2006. There is a huge thread on here that went on for a while until someone got their panties in a bunch and closed it.
We still do the farmers market every Saturday. We donate free meds to our ill and low income patients and top shelf indoor goes for around $200. an oz.. outdoor starts around $75 I believe. It is like a farmers market and you can test many products before you buy. Chill atmosphere. I organized the market and kept it going at various dispensaries and now it has evolved to stand on its own without a supporting dispensary. Several vendors now work together to keep it going and it cost $20. for a vending spot that goes to pay insurance and utilities.

It's in California. North of Santa Rosa, inland a bit east of Ukiah on Highway 20... very cool. I highly recommend the Farmer's Market for great genetics and medicine. Rowdy is one cool lady and everyone is very friendly!
