Purple L.A. Confidential

Greetings everyone !

I have just cut today an LA Conf of horribly low production, but with purple buds so dark that they look black.
I've been doing a bit of internet search, but couldn't find anything about a purple pheno of La Conf. Well, purple leaves yes, but no purple-black flowers.

Anyone came across this pheno ?

Irie !

I chopped a horribly yielding LAC a couple of months ago. This girl stretched like crazy and had little tiny bud sites several inches apart on each branch. I thought maybe it was a poor reaction to getting topped. Cool temps at night brought on a lot of purple and red in the fan leaves but the harvested buds finished green. Was your plant exposed to low temps for several nights in a row? Maybe that could explain the effect on the buds.

So I guess not like what you got but I can relate to the small harvest. It didn't even fill up a pint jar. I usually just use those small jars for holding what I am smoking on - I've never had to bust one out for harvest before. On the bright side it has cured to a very nice coffee/cocoa smell but I haven't smoked enough to get much of an impression besides it knocks me out late at night.

Greetings Peacefrog & Bigherb, thanks for the replies

Cool temps at night brought on a lot of purple and red in the fan leaves but the harvested buds finished green. Was your plant exposed to low temps for several nights in a row? Maybe that could explain the effect on the buds.

Night temps go down to 18°C. I noticed end of last week that the flowers seemed to darken and decided to let it go through the week end and she would be cut when back from the Cup. When I came back the buds were all deep near-black purple. This was after 7 weeks of 12/12.

Thanks for the links bigherb, I had already seen that one on flickr, but not the second one. Still, I have a few buds in front of me, quick-drying on the modem and they look totally different.

Some pics here, sorry for bluriness, darn camera doesn't want to focus correctly when using flash for close-ups...

An uncommong pheno then ? That's funny, I've got a Green Crack going on as well, and this one will take at least 10 weeks to be done, which seems uncommon as well. If only they were big yielders...

Irie !

I had a nice purple L.A. Confidential pheno from DNA seeds but it deff. wasn't a poor yielder.. yours still looks dank either way.. pitty the poor yield tho.

My L.A. Confidential always turns a fair amount purple at the end of flower. Especially when it's winter. The fan leaves turn the most lovely deep shiny purple. The nugs usually turn 25-50% purp. I have had my cut for about seven years, got it in Orange County. It's a medium yielder, not bad at all. Stinky coffee and donuts!

I grew out 6 Purple La. I found 4 different phenos. 1 was ridiculously purple. Stems, leaves, and buds. It turned purple immediately upon 12/12. It had the tiniest buds Ive ever seen. The whole plant was covered in frost but it was a pathetic yielder with lots of leaves. Another did not turn purple and took longer to finish and it was low yielder. A third pheno had low-med yield w purple buds and light green fans. Really thin leaves. The fourth pheno was a good yielder with lots if stretch and golf ball sized buds along each branch in a scrog. Nice purple hues w excellent visual bag appeal. The aroma seemed mutedeven after 3 mo cure. The buzz was heavy couchlock. The taste was actually very nice. I like DNA gear but would not recommend this strain.

I have run 2 seed plants of LA, both turned black outdoors. Leaves, buds, everything so purple it looked black. LA is one of my favorite mainstay strains. I keep a mother for a real long time and will prolly grow it again. I'm pretty sure the purple/black pheno is the most regular to appear.

I have dealt with several LA Confidential phenos. None of them yield well, the , dark purple pheno does tend to look and smell awesome, but yield less. I the greener pheno tends to yield a little more. I have grown both phenos under hps and t5's. My advice is to ditch hps and go for a BROAD spectrum of flouros and scrog it. The bag appeal to this bud is very unique under flouros, the nugs are small and loose to medium density, but flouros on L.A. Conf. is the recipie for the hariest bud you have ever seen. I For my personal use, I grow under the T5's and use soil, then dry in a high end piece of antique furnature that I bought used due to its unusually sweet smell. The result is skunky, earthy, with a maple/hickory aroma. And the hairs are 1 1/2-2cm long and bright orange. A quad would fill half of a sandwhich bag. And an ounce left in a large cereal bowl could be flipped upside down without dropping more than a gram.

I forgot to mention temperature is crucial if you want dark bud, I grew in Az where you can't afford your ac bill, and It had no effect on the yield for me. However in my new basement location, they are much more purple from being under 70f during lights on :p
