what will the world be like in 1000 years from now?

I think we are far too optimistic about the benefits of technology and scientific progress. The continued privatisation of the scientific sphere will see only profit related schemes being championed. You only have to look at the pharmaceutical world to see how debased it is with doctors prescribing drugs irrespective of health benefits and in hock to the Pharma cartel. Technology/science has not solved the common cold or world hunger. In fact there are far more negative than positive aspects to it; just take the military industrial complex for example. You only have to look at Africa to see how 'failed' is the idea of representative democracy which we try to push on developing nations. I think in reaction to all this there will be a surge in self sufficient living and communitarian groups/communes. This will be viciously opposed by most states and result in even less civil liberties. I see the only answer in trying to find your own small niche outside an increasingly irrational state and suprastate organisations. I dont know what this is , perhaps living in the wilderness is the solution (but who has the skills to do that?)......

the movie 12 Monkeys comes to mind

at some point all the things mankind think they have the right/brains/duty to fuck with will bite us all in the ass one way or another

Patent laws need some serious reviewing; you're right that as the system currently stands, actual innovation is not really rewarded much at all.

As for doctors prescribing drugs willy nilly, that is down to a lot of issues, none of which are related to some sort of money making conspiracy. A GP may see 100 cases of various ailments in a day and sadly do not have time for a more personalized approach to reduce harms from synthetic pharmaceuticals and quite often a patient can be rather impatient :)tongue:) for something to take, for the placebo of seeming to be doing something about their ailments if nothing else.

The common cold is fucking hard mate. Go do some research and maybe you'll understand why it hasn't been 'cured' yet.

World hunger - largely a political issue in my opinion. A lot of the imbalance is caused by the subsidization of farming in the western world and using these 'cheap' products to flood poorer nations. Science as a whole has done a hell of a lot to increase the productivity of land in the past 50 years though.

Humanity will be wiped out by the elite class that will eventually merge with artificial intelligence and become a new species.

i predict taxes and gas prices will be a lot higher. politicians and lawyers will still be corrupt and unethical. cannabis will still be around, but the prohibitionists will be extinct.

Powerful people will not live on Earth... or perhaps the other way around, but people will live off planet thats for damn sure. At least if I have something to do with it.

Mankind will probably be extinct . The way we are raping the world of all it`s resources , poisoning the oceans & the ozone the damage will be far too great to do anything about . There will not be enough land for crops & certainly not enough labs to grow food to support the population . And remember were breeding like rabbits so everythings on a downward spiral , you won`t see Africa apart from a wasted desert .

...the Apaches rule north america, Innuits moved to antarctica, walmart is the only store and sells produce created by monsanto. there is one religion for everyone by legislative decree. everyone works for the government store(WALstreetMART). water is regulated. there are no personal/private gardens/farms. pets become food items. 24 hour surveillence of every aspect of your existence. there will be auctions to determine whether or not you may have children. your mate will be assigned, as will your job, and your name. lives will be limited to 50 years to arrest the escalating health care debacle. there is no money, but a debit system. cannabis still beats pharmaceuticals.

Somebody, somewhere will be bitchin about how kids these days totally suck and how "it wasn't like that when I was growing up."

Of this, I am certain, the rest is open to speculation.

You know, at some point, breeding will need to take a step away from social interaction, cuz these bitches be dumb.

Like Stephen Hawking say, "The human race will not survive the next thousand years on earth, if we live in the same way as now. We need to do settlements in space before we run out of resources."

The only difference in 1000 years will be technology and political structure.

Pretty much.

We'll be just as retarded then as we are now.

The problem with humanity is the fact that humans are "gamers", by nature and design. We are always trying to "game the system", which means that we'll fuck up ANY and EVERY system we EVER devise, instead of doing the "right" thing and abiding by "the system".

It's in our DNA.

Just saw something about the polar shift that is apparently going down now, which could....change things a bit. Geological evidence suggests that this shift happens regularly (every couple hundred thousand years..ish), however, the impact on our current civilizations is largely unknown. Could be ugly, but than again, none of us will be around to witness it......
