The weekly update:

Z#3 turned out male, Z#1 and Z#2 had tiny preflowers which looked like male clubs, so I moved away the 3 plants to free more space for the rest. Here are the males:

Z#4 was the first to show pistils, Z#6 followed, and only Z#5 hasn't shown sex yet. I selected Z#4 for this season:

And then, by surprise, Z#1 brought out 2 nice female flowers instead of male clubs, and is back in the game. Z#1, Z#5 and Z#6 will be given to a friend to grow on his balcony.

Yeah Z#4! I like it for the color. I like Z#6 also. How soon can you plant in the ground outdoors? You could build a cold frame over it.

We could already plant here at 47*N but the beans won't be here until next week. But it's worth waiting for sure...
Swazi x Leb, it'll be like 12 weeks flowering/November so wish me luck !
I'll maybe try Zamaldelica fem (Zamal x killer Malawi) indoor so it could be a very interesting year...

I can already transplant outdoors, the night temperatures don't fall bellow 10*C. But I'll wait till this coming weekend so that the roots have time to occupy the pot and the day becomes a little longer - I don't want to stress the plant and don't know how this strain would react to sudden shortening of the day to 13 hours and 40 minutes (as of today). The plant seems like a sensitive one, heh, its leaves droop in reaction to almost anything.

Z#2 showed one female flower instead of developing what I thought were the beginnings of male flowers. I have no one to give it to, so it will get a chance outdoor I don't want to grow more than 1 plant on my property, so its new home will be an abandoned neighbor property that's all covered with dense shrubs and small trees. Not a perfect place in any way, but I don't need to grow another tree, just curious about the different phenotypes of Zamaldelica.

Today the plants were transplanted outdoors. Here they are before taken outdoors.

Z#2, as seen from my fence. I didn't cull the surrounding grasses because shepards with goats often pass near by and the plant should look like it's wild - we have wild hemp around and Z#2 has thin leaves like the hemp.

To my surprise, Z#2 had a very close encounter with the goats only a few hours after being planted on the spot. An old lady who happens to be a neighbor of mine passed by with several goats, curved from the usual path and came straight to the plant. Several goats ate from all surrounding bushes and grasses for 15 minutes, while the old lady talked with my mother over the fence, the plant being among hers and the goats' legs. I thought it's completely eaten, as I have bad experiences with goats eating from my plants. But it seems they didn't like Zamaldelica's aroma - after the goat party left, the plant stood happy in the middle of a tramped mess and shrubs with eaten leaves - I'm so happy because that was a great first meeting with the goats!

Thank you for the wishes, people So far, so good.
I had a little mishap with the tomatoes - I sprayed them with copper and lime against fungi as I usually do, but I did it a little late in the morning when the sun was already shining on the plants, and they got burnt (or rather boiled...) by the water and sun. Hopefully they will recover quickly.

I've read that cannabis and tomatoes go well together, protecting each other from various pests. But unfortunately this is not the case with the moles that spawn caterpillars on my cannabis plants - every year at the end of May we have small white-orange caterpillars that bore into the main stems (the only thick stems at that time) and the part of the plant above the pest droops and usually dies. I spray with a pyrethroid against them.
I don't know which dung is best, but I think I have little goat shit mixed in my soil too - before transplanting I enriched the soil on the tomatoes and Z#4 spot with some old dung from my neighbours' animals - they mix the dung from all the animals they have (chicken, pigs and goats). The plants will surely like it.

Yoss33 - Z4 looks like it is completely recovered from the transplant, enjoying the out doors, and on the verge of a growth spurt. Nice work!

Hi there,
Here comes the weekly update.

Z#4 is bringing out a very pale shade of green under the sun, almost yellow. It's not N deficiency as all leaves from the top to the bottom are equally pale and the plant looks very healthy. Love this color.

It had a critter spawned in a leaf "pocket" made of glued leaf. I'm not sure if this is the same kind of borg that bores into stems:

Z#2 is darker in color, partly because I watered it with a chemical fertilizer when planting as I didn't know how rich the soil at that place is. It had very weak branching when it was in the beer cup and now it still doesn't bring out new branches and the existing ones at the bottom of the plant don't seem to develop. Not many hours of direct sunlight and the plant reaching upwards is the cause I guess.

We had some rains and cloudy weather this week, so not much progress.

Z#4, which seems to be going for a mix of conical (Christmas tree) and cylindrical (poplar) structure.

And Z#2 which is continuing to just stretch. Sorry for the bad photo but it comes to show how well Z#2 hides in the bush when not directly lit (after 5:00pm)

That plant has a good start for it still being June. Looks like it will be a beast by the end of the summer. Is it over a meter tall already?

I think we are still in May and in June Z#4 will be having a much better start
It's about 90 cm tall now. It still haven't picked up momentum, but in June when it has established its roots, I hope it will show what photosynthesis is all about
