WASHINGTON - How it affects children will be one factor the Justice Department weighs as it determines how to respond to the legalization of marijuana in Washington state and Colorado, Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress Thursday.

"When it comes to these marijuana initiatives, I think among the kinds of things we will have to consider is the impact on children," along with factors such as violence connected to trafficking and organized crime, Holder told a House Appropriations subcommittee. He commented in response to questions about ballot initiatives legalizing the drug that passed last year.

"We are certainly going to enforce federal law," Holder said.

Marijuana is illegal under federal law, and one congressman pressed Holder to challenge the state initiatives in court. Holder said he hasn't decided what to do.

In December, President Barack Obama said in an ABC interview that the federal government won't go after recreational marijuana use in the two states that have legalized it. When asked if he supported legalization, he responded, "I wouldn't go that far."

Holder reminded the panel of that, and added, "I'm not for it either."

But Rep. Andy Harris, a Maryland Republican, said that the president didn't take a position on the initiatives, and urged the Justice Department to do so.

"Your department could choose to attempt to overturn those laws," said Harris, a physician. That would send a message to America's youth that marijuana is not a safe drug, he added. "Kids need clear messages and I'm afraid we're not sending them one," he said.

Harris pressed Holder on when a decision might come, "because children are dying from drugs. It is a scourge ... can you give me a general idea of when that decision's going to be made?"

Holder would only say, "As quick as we can.

He damn sure didn't worry about the children when his justice dept allowed and encouraged Arizona gun shops to sell guns to known Mexican cartel members and their straw buyers during his Fast and furious operation.
Gun control-Lets do it for the children
Any other cause- lets do it for the children
FUCK HIM-Lets do it for the children

The forbidden fruit theory, validated by a US research project in 1999 and later proven by Holland and Portugal, would indicate that children consider weed to be less "cool" when it's legal and are therefore much less likely to try it early on in the first place. Cannabis should not be available to kids due to the risk of psychosis from them using it heavily and every sane pro-weed organization realizes this.

Logically, the political cliche of "SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN" should actually favor legal weed. Sadly, we all know that Holder etc. works in the opposite direction of logic and science by reaching the conclusion they want first, then cherry-picking their evidence if they're not too busy outright fabricating it at the time.

Holder is a gutless piece o' shit. He's been backpedaling since November because he doesn't have the balls to just come out and say 'fuck you America, go to jail'. Think of the children? Gimme a break! He should have been fired two years ago, but he's Obama's buddy so he's here to stay. IMHO he's the biggest obstacle to legalization right now. Fuck him.:moon:

I think kids should come first in all things, that are for kids.lets work on the things to count
school (making it more engaging) , moral guidance, financial literacy ,"camping" (survival)/running around outside for GOD's sake.lol shit we gotta train the parents who did not have great role models in there life stop the visas cycle teach honor and tradition . self worth of your self and your name, but that's another topic srry for the rant.
but yea personally pro lets the gitter bugs get high(shit I dnt think ill would be as smart as I am now without it,and my pops) but its a political fail.
but legal weed would stop all this cartel shit anyways...

Holder is one detestable piece of excrement. God gave him a rat face as a warning to others, too bad they did not heed it.

Preacher nailed the whole pot and kids thing. There is no 'saving the kids' by making pot illegal. Simply a lie and proven to be a lie.

Holder is another piece of shit in a long line of pieces of shit that make you realize that logic is fuckin' stoopid

they don't worry all that much about the effect of Bud Light on children when they are enforcing fucking laws do they? and every supermarket strip mall has a liquor store in it

if it is really about the children why the fuck isn't there a dispensary next to every grocery store? kids would probably rather go shopping with mom and dad when they have the munchies anyway:tiphat:

In some countries... cannabis is used as a FIRST line defense in children, instead of harmful Rx concoctions pushed so heavily in this here country.

Holder is an ignoramous tool.

Yes, lets think of the children with cancer and epilepsy and seizure disorders that are helped by high CBD/low THC medical marijuana.

When I first found out how non-intoxicating cannabis is when dosed responsibility...I was very pissed off. I wondered what else have I been lied to about? I'm not sure what good it does to raise children who value honesty when adults can not be honest with themselves. Children are not dieing from drugs. Children AND adults who do not feel well wish to feel better and many reach a point to where they are willing to try anything out of desperation. If people spent less time trying to manage the freedom of others (which is impossible!) and more time with their own children...maybe our youth would be more healthy. Adults need to learn how to treat others as adults before they can truly think of the children...whom should be treated like adults if they are eventually expected to behave like one.

ther is no way holder et al do not know that cannabis is beneficial

i can see where a local professional might be bought in and believe the lies/propaganda

but those 'in the know' have always known that this has never been about drugs and has always been about protecting oil co profits and eliminating competition

think about the children we plan to march off to war

I think dragging Big Oil into this is very country-productive.

Actually, it predates big oil - it was to protect William Randolph Hearst's investments in paper at the time. Big oil just lucked into it later.

Standard staged authoritarian echo chamber. Children are *not* dying from marijuana, Mr Harris, so let's not pretend that they are, OK?

Nobody in the room had the temerity to say that, the truth, but they never cared about the truth, anyway.

They may be able to prevent retail MJ in Colorado, but they sure as Hell won't change A64, get the local help they need to actually enforce federal law.
