In an interesting twist to the ongoing battle between medicinal marijuana advocates and law enforcement, a Ramona couple stands accused of illegally growing pot on their property despite holding county-issued medicinal marijuana cards. At 5:30 a.m., federal and state narcotics agents – with guns drawn - raided the home of Dennis and Deborah Little.

“In my mind, we're legal. Everything's good. We got our cards, we're legal,” Dennis Little told NBC 7 San Diego.

The 64-year-old suffers from a chronic nerve disorder. His wife Deborah, 59 is a cancer patient, treated for AIDS for the last 20-years.

In 2011, they began growing marijuana after being issued medical Marijuana cards.

“This was just our little private thing that we decided to try because, we were getting tired of all the, she's taking hands full of pills every day for her conditions. And I'm taking anti-depressants,” Dennis Little said.

Prosecutors say there is enough evidence to show the couple was breaking the law. Legally, medical marijuana users can have an amount of the drug reasonably related to their conditions. Prosecutors say agents seized hundreds of pounds of useable marijuana. The Little's dispute that claim saying they had 25 plants. They also deny charges they planned to sell the drug.

“We've never sold to anybody. We don't go to dispensaries. We bought from two dispensaries,” Deborah Little said.

“I think it's silly. It's a tremendous waste of taxpayers’ dollars,” her husband added.

The Little's say they've received unexpected support from medical marijuana advocate groups but are embarrassed that their private health stories have become public. However, they say they want people to take a closer look at the debate on medicinal marijuana use.

“Do some research on the Internet. Check it out. Read the articles on it. Cannabis can help you, it's helped me. I swear by it,” Dennis Little said. That may be the case, but prosecutors say the Little’s broke the law and gave conflicting information to investigators. The case goes to trial later this year. If found guilty, the couple faces up to six years in prison.

dont believe everything you hear.

100lbs WET is how they weigh it.
they arent going to dry your plants for you and then wait to weigh it out....

and people ARE growing way more than they should be. there are people that make claims and arguements but in reality they are growing a shit load of bud and selling it.

25 plants can produce 100lbs if they have them in big ass smart pots. two people dont need 100lbs to last them thru the winter til next season. its all bullshit.

That's bull. The article said "hundreds" of lbs. That means at least 200 pounds, which is impossible with 25 plants now matter how big the pots are, and indoors to boot. No way you can even approach those numbers inside no matter how big the pots. Do you actually not realize that the pigs lie as a matter of course in these situations? If you think that, you are truly naive.
Pigs/DEA/Feds lie for a living. It's who they are, it's what they do.

I can't help but notice that you seem to be stating that like it's a bad thing?

The fact is... cannabis should be completely un-restricted. I applaud anyone that bucks the system and helps other people get access to cannabis.

If it wasn't for illegal growers when I was growing up... I probably would be in prison or have committed suicide before now. No way I'm gonna be upset about patients helping out with bud to the neighborhood.

That being said... these people risk being busted. Being dumb will make it happen quicker. CA is also full of socialists that would have a problem with older people being comfortable and solvent... if they committed non-victim crimes to do it.

Hundreds of lbs is likely anything over 100.00000000000000001 lbs. wet weight with containers, roots, dirt or hydroton, etc. dangling.

If you can prove intent to distribute then prove it by action. And if you can, so what. It is still a bull shit rap.

san diego banned dispensaries and everything else cannabis related lol.
they are putting out a sign that they dont want it in their city. so you think they will take kindly to growers? this is all common sense people, you can defend them all you want, but THE FACT IS they brought this attention to themselves. how did the cops know they were growing? because they are idiots and either told a gang of people or reeked up their whole neighborhood.

growing isnt for everyone, but EVERYONE is trying to get into it now that its near legality.

i see 40-50 yr old business men in suits at the hydro shop buying lights. its getting ridiculous.

Saw another article on this case which deputies testified to the 29 plants (not 25) being 8-12 feet tall outside in a 15x60 foot garden. Apparently it was spotted by air.

An outdoor forest of 30 plants in socal seems a little loud to me. I thought you had to be in a locking greenhouse anyway..

I had to do a double take on the date. Unfucking real this shit is happening in 2013. But this is how real wars end. One side will try to grab all the territory it can before the cease fire is called. These pricks aren't going to give in without a fight.

This poor couple could very well have had hundreds of pounds of bud. If they weren't selling, and had been growing and stashing, they could accumulate that amount over time.

But what if they used the whole flower for concentrate and had a shitty
Strain? The return would be sub par and yes I'd say us need a lot
To process inorder to consume.. Am I right here or am I just on the wrong side of the fence..
I feel for these guys but 25 dose put them over for 2 recs..
You are only allowed 6 in flower or 12 veg per Rec..
And a pound between them so its a no win situation for them
But I will add that yes pots dirt stalks all wet were weighed as a deciding factor on final weight of the bust that's what is fucked about the whole situation...
BULLsHIt laws hope they don't get anytime and get financal compansation for fucking their crop it's a long shot but like the guy in Wa. With 11p's and a Cali rec the judge ordered the cops to give it back in weekly a lot ments lol so who knows depends on the judge...
Good vibes and prayers sent out to them...

well you have to admit it was bold to exceed plant counts & have huge outdoor plants

but; i have to also agree~ it should be OK/well within our human rights

i do hope for the best for them ~prescription pharmaceuticals are the real poison

and prohibition/thugs the real enemy

In Hawaii LEO is doing raids, confiscating plants, grow equipment and dried bud, but not making arrests. They are telling the offenders "We'll be in touch", leaving them to sweat it out. They aren't taking people into custody because they can't seat a sympathetic jury, as the majority of residents favor legalization.

The cops rationalize their actions using their old fallback of "getting drugs off the street".

So... in Hawaii they're resorting to out and out theft plus FUD.

Nice so see they're lockstepping with the DEA

It's their bread and butter. The pigs are in a panic because they see the writing on the wall, they know legalisation is coming and they will fight it tooth and nail. What happens when a war ends? All the soldiers go home.:woohoo:
