Question about Sodas and also bacon!!!

I have been pondering in my head how to make these cannabis sodas. Has anyone ever had one, or made them before?

Also, since cannabis can be used to make oils and butters, can you also infuse cannabis in to bacon fat after you have collected it?

Interesting question...being a huge fan of bacon and THC being fat soluble in theory you might be able to do it but the tempts involved in keep the fat in a liquid form might degrade the THC...thats just a guess and it you seem that if you approached it like making butter the end product might not be the tasty thing either...as far as the soda go's beats me but it would be pretty neat thing IMHO....good luck I'm gonna have to keep an eye on this...lots of very smmart people here.

Bacon fat would be a suitable carrier. I would collect drippings and strain them very well. The fat will melt at a very low temperature, compared to the temperature necessary to decarb the thc. my concern would be burning the fat before infusing the thc. give it a shot

According to the guides I found online lard which is pork fat has a smoke point of 350-375 F depending which guide you look at... decarbing happens at 250 F if I am correct?

Interesting......post the results if you give it try....and honestly I have no clue at all about decarbing.....as I see it after 20 years of growing....I learn something new about it almost everyday.....I'm like a doctor...after 3000 years I'm still only practicing.

Yes, 250F is a good and easy to use decarb curve that the THC peaks at 27 min.

I've been cooking with weed for a long time. Making cannabis infused bacon fat is easy. After cooking bacon, I strain the grease and save it in half pint mason jars. I'll take anywhere from a half ounce to an ounce of good trim, add it to a pan with a cup of bacon fat, and simmer on low heat for 20 minutes. Strain the grease (making sure to squeeze it out of the trim) and store in a jar in the freezer.

The potency depends on the batch. I have a low tolerance, so 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon is usually enough for me. Some friends of mine might need a tablespoon to get decently high. Add the infused fat to scrambled eggs, pasta, or anything else tasty.

I don't know exactly how they make the sodas for the dispensaries. I just add a teaspoon of one of my glycerin tinctures to a soda and I'm good to go. A few drops of concentrated high quality ethanol tincture works too.

Hi M314 I'm very interested in tinctures but clueless in how to make them. Can you point me in the direction of of good reference materials so I can get decent foundation built up? Any help would be much appreciated.

True indeed. Bacon fat works fine. Low and slow on the decarb, like a lot of pork preps.

How well does the bacon fat retain its flavor vs the herb? I see it going one of 3 ways as I haven't made it yet.

1. You get a fairly even flavor between the herb and fat
2. The fat turns bitter from the herb
3. The fat retains a primary bacon flavor with a light smokey herb flavor. (This is what I am aiming for, but I also want to it to potent)

if you heat and strain cannabis in the bacon fat it will end up tasting like #1 or #2... plus you will be heating to extract the resins and infuse them into the fats then you will be heating them again when cooking (which could possibly result in degradation of the the THC into CBN)

if you want #3 you would be best to make full melt hash then put that into the warm liquid bacon fat... but then the fat itself must be eaten... not just used to cook something or else the THC will go to waste (which is why I suggested the refried beans) plus the hash will only be heated (and activated) once, when the bacon fat meal is being cooked, thereby reducing any loss of potency

I used to make crude tinctures from my trim. Dry and cure the trim like you would with buds. Pack it into a jar as full as possible, add everclear 190 (or the highest proof liquor you can find), and let sit for a few days or weeks. Strain and enjoy, or evaporate off some of the alcohol to increase potency. A second extraction will get more out of the trim. This tincture stays potent for years if you store it in a dark place. The only downside to this method is how it tastes.

I've tried lots of recipes over the years. These days I prefer stronger tinctures made by dissolving hash oil in ethanol (everclear 190). Make BHO, QWISO, or QWET oil and add the smallest amount of everclear needed to dissolve it. 2 or 3 drops can feel strong to someone with a low tolerance.

This is how I made a batch of C99 tincture last weekend.

1) Put 2 ounces dried and cured trim in a quart mason jar, put in freezer
2) Freeze quart bottle of 99.9% isopropanol
3) Pour cold isopropanol into the jar with the trim, shake for 30 seconds
4) Pour into a bowl through a mesh strainer, remove trim
5) Run through a coffee filter to remove the smaller pieces
6) Evaporate isopropanol
7) Purge by dissolving the golden oil in everclear and letting the ethanol evaporate
8) Dissolve in everclear again, this time using just enough to dissolve the oil
9) Store in a little bottle with a medicine dropper for easy access

I also did a second isopropanol extraction on the trim. I let this one sit at room temperature for 24 hours. The resulting oil is almost black. It's very effective, but the taste isn't the best. I use this oil (after purging) to make capsules with coconut oil.
