How to select a mother out of vegging plants?

Hey,

I am not sure whether this is the correct sub-forum.....

Are there any possibilities to recognize a good yielder out of >50 vegging plants made of seeds? Should I look for the tallest, the branchiest or greenest plant?
Or is it just a matter of luck as long as you cannot compare the actual outcome in yield?

Hopefully some information float into this thread :)

my opinion is gotta flower them to know what you got,i think its easier to select males on certain criteria-size smell and structure

Most often the one I like the least early flower into mid flowering turns out to be the best one when the grow is over. This has happened quite a few times when growing a panel of strains to select a keeper from. Some plants don't shine til the very end.

Ditto...

Just finished up 3 Double SFV, the worst looking one going in turned out to be the best coming out.

It's a gamble really as you won't know what visually desirable traits they hold until they start flowering. And you won't know which of those has a more favorable high until all dried and cured.

Depending on the numbers you're working, taking clones of vegging plants and flowering them in a small set-up allows you to sellect your fave ones based on flowering traits.

Not a chance, I'm afraid (except perhaps for totally obvious runts and deformed plants... and still, you never know!)

If you are serious about finding keepers you have to take clones of them all.
Even then, I will probably use this as a first selection, and run all the best candidates a second time, just to be sure.
No getting around it, I'm afraid.

Otherwise, just pick the biggest, best lookers BUT as others have already said it is not uncommon for something that looked moderate to outperform its peers during actual flowering.

Most times my runtiest looking plant in veg turned out to be the best smoke and yielder. You just never know. Take clones from all, label them, and see what you like. Good luck!!!

The biggest most vigorous plant with the shortest internodes, that's about the best you can do. It's a bit of a gamble.
If they are F1 seeds then they should be fairly uniform.

If you select the best looking plant in veg you'll be guaranteed the best vegetation. If you want lots of frosty trichomes and the best high then you have to flower them out.
