Who to vote for?

Hello everyone,

With the election fast approaching I started to wonder, who has the best cannabis reform policies? Traditionally I've always stuck with Labor as their a little softer than the hard stance the Liberal party always seem to take on it. It was labor who introduced the cannabis infringement notice for small quantities in my state, which was reversed as soon as liberal came into power.

Anyway, like many Labor voters I suspect, I am not happy with the shambolic state of the party. While cannabis reform is not the ONLY policy I am concerned about it is a major attraction for me.

So what parties in Australia offer the best cannabis reform policies? I think there is enough time for me to go off and study the other underlining policies that your suggestions may offer and hopefully by Sept I can make an informed decision on who will get my vote.

Cheers!

none.

If you must vote then please informal or independent.

If you want to shape policy on cannabis in your state then join the only political party that will be alive after the bloodbath thats coming (dont matter if you dont like them buts its a good idea to play for the side thats winning). a single vote can determine an election but votes dont shape policy.

except for medical use I couldn't care a fig about Cannabis legalisation.

I would not like to see Cannabis use legalised because the value and quality of Cannabis would drop. it would also ruin the camaraderie found in these pages.

I don't depend on outside Authority for my peace of mind re Cannabis.

I depend on myself and my ability to make my Cannabis use private from the Mainstream.

Conservatives generally seem to not want to push for progress regarding pot laws. So, voting Libs is off the cards for me.

While, you are right, Labor do tend to have a softer stance than the Liberals, what have they accomplished with regards to more progressive pot laws in their last two terms? Nothing. If anything, things have gotten worse, mostly at a state level.

I used to vote Labor, now I vote Green. Their stance, on their website, says they want weed to remain illegal, but wish to fully decriminalize it. That means it keeps its value and quality, as you still will need to buy from the black market.

Yeah, Greens come up with a lot of dumb ideas too, but so do the major parties. It's more of a 'best fit' for me. I don't follow politics like some people follow the footy.

I'd love to vote for a serious, non-joke, MJ supporting independent, but none are in my electorate ... and there's no way on gods great Earth that I am voting for a conservative man.

@Terrior ... playing for the side that wins sounds VERY Yes Minister, lol :)

Peoples lives have been destroyed by prohibition. Aren't you concerned that you can be locked up for producing and using cannabis?

I think the quality of cannabis would be much better if legalised. Most of the commercial I am unlucky enough to see has been mass produced, harvested too early, possibly sprayed with nasties e.t.c. Not only that but it puts money into the pockets of organised crime. The value of cannabis may drop but as I don't make money from it I couldn't care less.

I hope you are never unlucky enough to get busted. It can happen to anyone no matter how careful you are.

I hope people take their votes seriously. Politics effects every part of your life (whether you realise it or not).

Come to think of it, I can faintly remember an American news article on the Mexican drug war. It said weed quality had increased, as the Mexican brick weed, with about 5% THC content, had been replaced with dispensaries which stock Amsterdam grade weed (15-20%).

As for the price, I don't know. Personally, I just want full decriminalization, and will vote with this on my mind. I just want to stop being persecuted and am happy for baby steps, if anything, in the right direction.

This thread has made me feel like writing to my local member. I'm going to do it today! It's worth a try at least.

Why would the quality of weed drop if legalised? That makes no sense whatsoever...

Prohibition = bath made gin and moonshine
Post prohibition = Development of Napa Valley wines and fine southern bourbons etc.

If a dealer cares more about his profit than my freedom then fuck him. Not the kind of bloke I wanna fork out my hard earned for a premium product.

I can't see legalisation happening for a long time, if ever.
As for which party you vote for federally, it wont make any difference, both labour and liberal are pretty much the same these days.
And they both can see there are not many votes to be gained by legalisation, and the votes they will gain will be offset by the people who will vote against them because they legalized pot.
The numbers don't add up for them.

haven't you noticed that the quality of Everything goes to shit as soon as it's accepted by the general public?

surely you've noticed this ... ?

No

The only comparable example I can think of is Booze and it gets better by the minute.

Sure, the majority will buy base level stuff such as Tooheys but every Safeway has Moet and a nice Glenfiddich floating around.
Its just you don't get put in jail or lose your job over a nice scotch.
