Unless they are old seeds... I soak for 12-24 hours in water then toss them in my beer cups of seedling soil mix.

Sometimes I skip the soak, and just make sure my soil is wet enough.

Seedling soil mix I'm using now is Sphagnum, compost, ewc, vermiculite and gypsum

Edit: I have plenty of Heating mats and humidity domes... so I always use those too.

finally caught up on this thread...you guys post too much j/k

i am not true ROLS yet as i still use amendments to fortify the soil each time i plant out one of my pots...just can't seem to get enough omph in the mix to keep the plants happy from start to finish. i will be looking at doing some changes such as increasing my worm population and start making teas in the future.

i flower in 60 litre pots (approx 15 gal) with soil that i have built up over several years using a rough 50/50 mix of coco coir and aged organic soil a combination that works well in my often high rainfall environment.

where i seem to have issues is when i use smaller pots veg my plants in whilst under lights. the minimum size limitations would explain why outside pests (RA and fungus gnats) get slammed at are eradicated very quickly but not in smaller 2.8 litre veg pots that i use.

anyway thanks for the wonderful pic and the very informative insights, techniques and experiences people have shared...

Just had a right touch went to a garden center and they had the fabric pots i use on sale for 10p each lol

picked up 50, 2.5 liter and 10, 11 or 12 liter, thats all they had there they might be getting another order in today or tomorrow so going to go back and get more, they have lots of square ones that are 30 x 30 x 25cm which will hold over a cubic foo but you cant pick the square ones up maybe il get some anyway for when I can use them somewhere where I dont have to move them to water them, for 10 p you cant go wrong any size 10p but I just got the round ones today so will go back tomorrow and check for more

Gas mentioned he would put his seeds in a ziplock bag pinned to a board in some sort of starting mixture.

If they are old seeds I use the Coot method.

My method is just a couple drops kelp meal tea and water in a small ziplock pinned to the wall with a thumb tack at eye level in an 78 degree room. After about 12 or so hours they are usually ready to plant....type depending.

The warmth promotes fast germination....and is there any truth to the myth that warmer temps in germination lead to more females...I dunno.

Being at eye level against a white wall in ziplocks I can ergonomically view progress....can I claim this as biodynamics?..lol

I notice with the silica, supercropping heals much, much quicker. I've also noticed that the stems aren't nearly as squishy when rolling between two fingers. Woody, almost brittle, but not. If that makes any sense...

I add half cup per cubic foot which is 7.5 us gal or 6.2 uk gal so I would just use 1 cup and you should be golden, I think most people around here use the half cup per cuft. It will work very well for you

Be careful of the Neem meal. The higher quality the less you want to use. If you get the DTE use 1 cup but if you are using the Ahisma use 1\2 cup

Yes sir...just two tablespoons top dressed on a 5 gallon no-till pot will burn the tips on some types. No till pots run so much more efficiently though...so a little definitely goes a long way there.

isnt that something; the "temporary" state of container mixes is viewed as the drawback to container gardening in may ag circles ~even a justification for chem nuts

a frequently made point that doesn't coincide well w/ the experience of those who have years old houseplants

interesting that the antithesis of that kind of common thinking {since they think the soil should need replenished} is actually what makes containers a more viable solution

i like that; treat it like regular gardening and just dont pay attention to the container itself and voila

Without a little working knowledge, I can see how this information would be perpetuated.

While giving advice to many of my local Grower buddies I've noticed that they all do something similar unless I specifically tell them otherwise.

They all grow HUGE plants vegged for way to long in way to small of a container, get it root bound, clone, top and hack it back to half the size and then flip to flower.... with this upfront ignorance you can see how the soil container would run out of steam only a few weeks into flowering.

Once stretch starts there is NO way to keep moisture levels anywhere near balanced and watering twice daily becomes necessary just to keep things alive.

Then the bottled nutrients come back out and it's like SEE!! I KNEW THERE WOULDN'T be enough nutes in the soil!

With a proper container and plant size the soil starts to keep up with things and it gets really exciting.
