What's new

Help me put up a 14 incher!!!

Plywood has great strength when the load is spread out. Use bigass washers.

Plywood. Not particle board. But for this situation 2x4's are the best bet.

I agree eye bolt screw with ratchet straps will take care of that real quick.. I would pre drill the hole for the eye bolt screws. Im using these to hold up allot of stuff from my lights to the Flame defenders ..

Well Ive been soooooo busy I havent even had a chance to get it done. But hopefully I will get it done in the next couple of days.

Yep yep! I don't use ratchet straps for anything but I have thought about it for install of things I can't lift on my own. Thankfully, a buddy came by to help! I personally use bungees, doubled up, but I am not running a 14" filter. Ratchet strap sounds like the way to go! And always always predrill. Makes life -so- much easier. For everything. Doesn't crack the wood, easier to screw in..

I know the feeling! My stuff is sitting in veg, under the HPS, cuz things aren't done yet!

I've managed to hang Can Filter 150s and 100s with large fans already attached by myself.

Going the ratchet strap route I just get it started through the ratcheting part and make like just a few clicks. This will allow you to still pull the trap through manually, but will hold the filter from falling because of the downward weight putting tension (friction?) on the strap.

I'll make a sling and sort of tip the filter into it (this was the hardest part without having the taller 150 kick out and slide). I can then lift up on the filter one side at a time and pull the strap through a little more each time. I'll go back and forth doing this until I get the filter up near the ceiling and then I'll ratchet the remainder of the way up.

Works great. Not super hard and allows my scrawny ass to hang 150s by myself.

Here is a shot of my Max 14" on a Can Filter 150. (although the 10" Max is a better choice). Its mounted/taped on there a hair crooked, but its not going anywhere.

I'd normally just let a filter this big stand up in the corner, but no room in this space.

That looks amazingly busy! I bet it yields well!

Do you guys not bracket the fans onto the filters? I cut/welded up brackets for all my filter/fans (I was running them in each tent plus in the room, now just in the room). I'll admit, my first one was wood and super sloppy, but it got replaced once I had time. The circular saw and nail gun are a bit quicker than bandsaw, grinder, and welder, but the metal ones will last forever, and they're more compact and I don't worry about them failing!

Rom,

I adjoin the fan/filter using reinforced HVAC tape (this stuff is strong with string running throughout it). I also use a few self tapping screws to ensure it is not going to go anywhere.

MsMileHigh,

The 14" Max Fan loses it's power considerably after a certain amount of resistance/length of ducting. It looks to be more suited for scrubbing or direct outlet exhaust.

See the specs here on their website
