Is 8/3 Wire What I Need?

Just got this Titan Helios and am wondering if I need 8/3? I have a 40 amp breaker and 8/2 wire. Should I return the 8/2 and get 8/3?

Hopefully a sparky sees this and can help me out.

Hola Trey, First of all, what is the wattage? Does the mfg. tell you what amperage circuit to use? If your 40 amp breaker is indeed the correct amperage then you will need #8/4 Copper cable. Two hots, one neutral and one green ground.

Going to have 5200 or 5600 depending on if I get a 240 T5 or a 120 T5(120 would be on another circuit).

Any danger in using 40 amp? It recommends 50 amp but that is for 8000 watt. It seems 30 amp would actually cover 5200-5600 watts.

Looks like 8/3 to me... Green to ground, red/black to "Hot" and white to neutral.
Never heard of 8/4... They don't usually count the ground as a wire...

5600 watts / 240 volts= 23.33 amps. Use a 30 amp breaker and 4 conductor #10 Copper wire.

That's what I'm thinking. I busted out the black and decker home wiring book lol, it says, " NM cable is avail in either 2 wire with ground or 3 wire with ground".

I think we all mean the same thing though. 8/3=4 wires.

Now to figure out if it is bad to have 40 amp instead of 30 amp. Book says 30 amp max 5760 watts at 240 volt.

Any danger in having 40? I ask cause I may want to throw a couple more 1000 watters in there at some point.

Big proper peace homie!! We gettin there, we gettin there.

Okay, goona go with 10/3 30 amp beaker for now. If I do add a few more lamps it will be at least a year out at which time I'll swap out the 30 breaker for a 40 and pull new 8/3.

I say a 40 would be best. Are you figuring in continuous load? Any load ran over 3 hours is considered continuous and must be de-rated to 80%. So 30a would be 24a, 40a would be 32a. Sounds you need a 8/3 for a 240v.

these lighting controllers are weird. They are all 30-50 amps and intended to be used with 15a ballasts
I have a powerbox that is rated for 30amps, but recommends I use a 40a breaker if Ill be running 80% continuos load on 30a.

I went with 8/4. I wanted to have 120v/240v in the same panel. you can use the 8/3 with bare copper wire. I wanted the wire to be green. I have a total close to 4k watts with all my lights,fans,pumps.....I made mine with 2 20a breakers. I did this so I could balance the load as best I could. all ballest are on 1 20a 240v.. Thats it for this breaker its at 80%. I use the other 20a for the fans, pumps. Not to exceed 16a... I have room for a 10a breaker if I need it. I still have the room it's on another circuit. I use this for my AC if needed or my dehuy at night.


So I have a 50a breaker feeding my sub panel with 2 20a breakers with room to add 1 10a breaker OR change 1 20 to a 30a. I wired the sub panel with 10g wire ...All of he wire is 10g or 8g...All of the outlets where upgraded to 20a most have 15a or those universal outlets that let you plug in 120/220 into the same outlet. Dont use these..What the front look like Third ??
