You'll probably be transplanting those BO/NLH soon if they were anything like mine. Sativa dominant monsters with fast vigorous growth.

Word. I'm planning on transplanting today or tomorrow, whenever I find the time in between school and my outdoor veggie gardens. watering veggie plots in the desert is time consuming like no other...

Thanks for the love everyone! Glad to be here, and glad to be rockin ROLS til the day I turn to dust! How creeped out would my sister be if I told her that when I die I want her to cremate me and incorporate my ashes into a no-till raised bed? Cause thats the direction I'm leaning with it...lol.

More updates later - I got some errands to run.

For those of you with smartpots - how often do you water? I have a 30 gallon, a few 10 gallon, and a few 5 gallons. This is my first run using anything over 5 gallons, so I'm not sure how much/how often to hit the larger pots. I usually water every 2 or 3 days with 5 gallon pots, for what its worth.

Is there danger of overwatering here?

Nice on the ashes :) 10 gal once every 3-4 days, 7 gal 1-2 days, and 5 gal everyday (don't run the, anymore).

I veg 2 months and my plants are very thirsty.

How do you plant a clone in a "used" pot? At some point the pot must be filled up by the mulch you add, how do you handle that? I don't really get the concept for no-till pots. Please elaborate sir!

its really no problem zig

some folks have a mechanism* where the pot always goes in the same place others just dig a new hole

*dont rmbr where i saw it but 1 guy uses a net pot; transplants pot and all; grows out the cycle, harvests & pulls the pot after a few days leaving a space for the next net pot

I think we all do the same thing a push the soil to the side and removed whatever is needed to put the clone in its place. Pretty simple concept really. You just leave all the roots in and everything intact. Just cut at the base and put a whole next to it.

I guess you are relying heavily on ACT and FPE then? I mean, there is no way of adding new compost and other nutrients if you don't empty the pot and re-amend the soil.

Honestly I just pile shit on as a top dress. It's good to leave yourself 4 inches room when you fill them with soil. I got mulch pouring over some of pots but my plants are in good shape. I use dry herbal teas that are bubbled but they are applied in between water coconut and aloe. I guess my plants just get a little taste of everything. I do apply ACTs once every 3 weeks or so as needed but no FPE.

Welcome to the forum, z.

Check out the living organic soil sticky and the ROLS megathread. People have been running no-tills for a few years now and more are joining in all the time. Couple more items to add to my soil and I'll be ready to start.

Use a deep bin or the largest container possible and don't fill it to the top.

:yeahthats Exactly what mm said. Since this is my first cycle in these no-tills I have yet to run into any problems, but from what others have said, the soil seems to consume all the mulch/EWC/topdressings that are applied - to an extent. a.k.a. a cycles worth of mulch is easily incorporated into the soil without adding any volume to the pot. But if you topdressed 6'' of EWC you might run into some problems with space if you didn't leave enough headroom...

Transplanting a 1gal rootball into a 5gal no-till gets a bit more tricky...I usually just remove 1 gallon of soil from the no-till pot, transplant, and then backfill as much as I can. Usually I end up with around 3/4 gallon of no-till soil leftover, which I then use to plant my clones in. It all ends up back in the no-till eventually...

This is one of the reasons it is harder to run "true" no-tills in a 5 gallon pot. If you are concerned about space, get a 45 gallon smart pot and fill it 4/5 of the way. gravy.

Of course you could also plant clones directly into the no-tills, but I prefer my plants to be large before transplanting, and unfortunately I can't fit anything bigger than a 5gal pot through the door into my grow room (it's a squeeze cause I have a tent setup within a bedroom...open the door and boom you hit the tent poles) So i choose to veg in 1 gallons and then transplant when the time is right. Another reason I have been constantly increasing my pot size... :)

i'm high as shit...hope that makes sense lol :dance013:

:) 3 pages in a day..lets not turn this into the old ROLS thread lol. I kid, keep the good vibes coming.

Just got back from selling my old pH and ppm meters :moon: was cleaning up the grow room and found them...figured I could use the cash.

Homeboy off craigslist was super excited to get them, and started showing me pictures of his setup...all the $$ he had spent on tables, nutes, yadda yadda. Felt bad but I just kept smiling while I was cringing inside lol.

Asked him about electricity (hes planning on running 9K watts...) and he said he did the calculations and he would be paying around $50 a month...I straight laughed and told him that he did his math wrong. I run around 4000 watts and pay between 700 and a grand a month....LMAO. he's in for an unpleasant surprise. also he is starting an operation at the worst time of year in so-cal haha...get ready to crank up the A/C and pay even more for electric...

disaster waiting to happen...but I got $120 out of the situation so no complaints here. Glad to be here on IC in the company of folks who actually know what they are talking about!

sometimes I forget that nobody really grows like this...lol. I know for a fact I am the only person who buys glacial rock dust from the local hydro store...or at least for the last 6 months I have been the only one. I wonder how many bottles of wet betty they have sold in the last 6 months...LOL
