First Timer Any suggestions help

So I am looking to do a closet grow and have been trying to decide on what to do. The space I am looking to use is about 3'x8'x8 or so, fairly large closet. I am trying to decide how exactly to go about it, whether I should just get a couple 600watt lights, some plywood and mylar and a fan with a filter or if I should try on of the all in one 600watt kitts like offered by HTG supply. I am trying to keep total costs under a grand so my options are somewhat limited. I would totally appreciate any input people can offer on things such as strains I should use, what lights I should get, whether the all in one kits are a good idea for a first timer, and really just any advice or suggestions you can offer.

THANKS :tiphat:

Each sub-forum here has a number of threads that have been 'stickied' at the top of the page.

I highly recommend reading every sticky you can find that deals with your equipment and location.

Look for the grow method that has the most success stories by newbies and the most knowledgeable people online, helping the new growers with that method.

Read until you can't answer your own questions by searching this site and reading more threads. :)

A 3x8 area would be good for 2x 600w HPS's and two 3x3 tables one light per table with 1.5' to 2' between the tables.

Hydro soil's got it right though...my suggestions would be to get a good book or two (I like Jorge Cervantes) to read,as well as reading all the stickies in each sub forum.

Find out if you want to do soil or coco or full on hydro (I recommend soil/soilless for beginners),scrog, sog, bushes, horizontal, vertical etc...

Advice I saw from a poster (Sumo, I think?) some years ago, "Start simple and complicate as necessary." Start small and as your skills improve (and they will!:D) you can take growing as far as you want!

I loosely suggest, one each quality light/fan/filter (most everything else is negotiable), and go with bagseed. Less pressure to succeed than with high dollar genetics, as the margin of error for anyone just starting out is much narrower. Hempy buckets partnered with the K.I.S.S. nutrient method, are about as simple as it gets, and will make for a good first crop to send you off on your journey. Research all this by reading...reading...reading! And when you feel you have read enough, read some more! Good luck!

I suggest you get a bigger space to grow...or get a tent...put it in a room with a lock and key. A 4X4 tent...a 1000w light/ballast...filter/fan....buckets/medium/nutes....You will probably a bit over a grand....and of coarse you are going to need a place to veg..unless you get a MH/HPS ballast or you choose to veg under HPS...which is totally doable. You will not have much money for a veg/mother/clone area....

Closets suck...get a tent.

Oh yeah...and no need to get bag seed. Get a mix pack from a reputable breeder on the bay/boo...for like $50 you can get world class genetics.....and this will make your life much easier down the line.

A closet is fine, if that is what you have.

I highly recommend starting with only a few plants and a small light. You can always use your small light for vegging mums and clones when you buy a bigger light later.

Some people are not growers by nature and find that out quickly. Craigslist is full of equipment from people that found out they aren't growers or who started too large for their skills. :)

Practice germinating seeds with bagseed. Buy real seeds and run those plants when you're comfortable you're not going to kill them as seedlings.

Maxibloom is CHEAP and almost perfect for cannabis... very difficult to feed wrong with maxibloom. Look put the K.I.S.S. threads for more info. :)

I guess I need to get with the program... I sat here thinking what is your target weight but apparent everyone think it is as much as you can get might seem to be the answer.

In my book $1k is a lot to spend on a grow without knowing where the yield will go. The space your are talking about can physically support enough to get mucho. Besides physical requirements what else are you restricted by? Plant Limits? Size? Target Monthly Cost? Are you looking to go year round?

Set up for 30 ladies and cost under $200... Think outside the box bro...lol

If ya SCROG IT . 2 x 400 or 600 hps would cover the whole 9...

Check my sig for the build...

My fav sites are Plantlightinghydroponics.com and Greners.com.. good prices..

I would go with dual 600 hps in electronic ballast.. Just buy cheap block coco and some water soulvant, chelated nutes.. like Humboldt nutriant .. I also reco Liquid Karma.. and just buy a cheap 20dollar tds pen and stick with the color PH kit it should just look like Piss color.. the expensive pens are for later once you have a piggy bank.. goodluck
