Cant decide on which XXXL hood id like

Hello all, im currently bargain shopping for a nice big hood for my room. i have a 1000w setup and am looking to upgrade it with a hood from the "shoddy" sheet metal hood i made

Ive decided on an air cooled hood. But i cant decide which one id like.

Theres this one thats 154.99 shipped with a 8 INCH exausht (which i prefer)

Im sure a 6 inch exhaust is fine correct? my grow room size is 5x4 or so and about 6 ft tall. its actually a grow tent.

Its in my basement and in the summer months, it could def use some more ventilation to help with the heat specfically. In the winter the heat from the bulb does the opposite of course so the exhaust fan would be reveresed.

I also have a 3 inch exhaust fan seperate and another 3 inch intake fan thats plumbed into a BIG house fan. i figure i could drop the house fan and put another inline 3 fan in if i get this hood.

I like 8" stuff so im biased lol....Im not familiar with that brand. Keep in mind you get what you pay for.


Switch to vertical and get a Luxor 8 inch Reflector Awesome reflector. If I had a differant setup I would have bought them long ago. If not a Magnum XXXL - 8" Air-cooled Reflector would also work well

Those are a little out of my budget if they're over 150

I def agree you get what you pay for however, I'm willing to compromise a little bit in the name of a hood

Here's what I'm running; Hydrofarm Raptor 8" Air Cooled Reflector

I give it five thumbs up so far...seems pretty solid and has a nice even footprint.

WOW. thats a bad boy reflector right there...way out of my price range tho. I know i get what i pay for but im more of a "brand x/DIY" kinda guy. I totally dont think anyone is "over paying" when they buy a 200+ hood, because thats a great looking hood with a great company behind it and your paying for more then just "Sheet metal"

I was going to build my own air cooled hood, but decided eh, f it and pick up a cheap one on ebay lol.

any other opinons and input appreciated! you guys are great over here!

I actually bought it on craig5list. I got the Raptor reflector, 1k MH-HPS switchable ballast, 2 bulbs (1 MH & 1 HPS), an 8" fan, and a heavy duty timer for $220...pretty good deal.

I had everything in My Cart online and was about to pull the trigger on a brand new setup when for whatever reason I decided to check craigslist first. I searched for "grow light" and found the add. Called the guy up and we met at a Lowe's parking lot an hour later. I saved a couple hundred bucks!

Hammerhead, no way a Luxor is fitting in a 6 ft. tall tent. They're great reflectors...if you have 9 ft. ceilings!

yes, thats my other concern, height. which is why i prefer something under a foot tall.

this hood will be my tax return partially spent before i save the rest lol

eh, the "sunmax" one for 154 shipped is still bigger and has an 8 exhaust. i think i might just go that route as its got a great footprint and is only 12in tall

FWIW, I run a 1000w hps in a 4x4 secrete jardin, in a basement. My 6 in vortex's are over kill, and I have to dial them down.

Also, I don't know what you have for a tent, but I don't think my dr will accept 8 in venting.

my grow tent isnt a "real" one like the one you use, its a pieace of mylar i hung up in my basement to be a "room". i would just cut a 8 hole for the venting. i appreciate your input tho, thanks!

I have one of those hoods but have not got around to setting it up yet. From what I see it is a great deal for the $$$.
