Trying to bring out the CBN

Hello all!
Long time lurker, finally decided to join.

I'm having trouble getting my strains to show any CBN. The lab results show high levels of THC low levels of CBD and no CBN whatsoever.

I feel cannabis is is most effective when all three major cannabinoids are present mine only has 2

I dont have test results to prove it but I know I've grown better herb in the past.
At this point I contribute it to the lack of CBN in my buds.

I was thinking that the glass on my hood is blocking all if any of the uv rays emitted by the HPS bulb. I think I might try changing out the HPS hood with a MH for the final 2 weeks. I might raise it a little higher and remove the glass.

I usually cure the dried trimmed herb in glass jars for 3-4 weeks. Is there a way to develop CBN while curing? Could I cure it in the sun? I am not looking for a lot of CBN just 1-2% without degrading too much THC.

Any help would be great!

How do you know your herb as no CBN? As far as I understood, non-psychoactive CBN is the remnants of degraded psychoactive THC. Why would you want to increase this process? I am not knocking you, I am genuinely curious. Either way, if you are hell bent on getting CBN, then yeah sure, leave your bud (curing or not) out in the sun for a while. That is sure fire way for degrading precious THC into (not so precious) CBN. Best of luck fellow grower.

Hi Texan thanks for the reply.
I've had a few strains lab tested.
As I understand CBN is only about 10% psychoactive, it is known to act as a "potent-ator" increasing the overall effects of the cannabis. I also feel cannabis is most effective when all 3 major cannabinoids are present. If gaining 1% of CBN means losing 1% of THC I am ok with that.
I am planning on taking a few grams of cured bud and letting it sit in the sunlight. How long do you think it will take to develop any CBN? How will I be able to tell? Could I inspect the trichomes with a lens and look for amber trichomes?
Do you think I could develop any CBN from shining a reptile uvb light on cured dried herb?

I never heard of MJ not having CBN'S. Even haze and sativas have some CBN's. What strain are you growing or have? You can look it up from the breeder. Some strains take longer then others to cure. The best cures IMHO take months not weeks to get the best out of your smoke. CBD's help with anxiety and pain while smoking, and CBN's help as a sleep aid. Letting one get tired and sleepy. I would just let it cure longer and see how it changes.

Good luck,

This is both genetic and has to do with the cure, but also waiting to harvest. If you want more amber, don't harvest so soon. I don't know if amber means more CBN. Good luck. -granger

I would try high compression of your herb after it's fully dry with a seal a meal.
test in 6 months. I think you will get some fermentation and degradation from ruptured trichs.

You can test it yourself. More amber trics more CBD's and CBN's. I did this with a sativa called power plant. Some friends called it sleeping weed. I let it flower too long.

do you think more CBN develops during the cure or on the live plant?

I'm wondering if I can shine a reptile UVB light on some curing herb and convert some THC to CBN.

During the cure or even more from long storage in light and at higher temps. I don't think you want CBN, but to each their own. It is like old Mexican or Columbian, fuzzy, flat and not clear, but if it helps you in any way I can understand. BTW, you do not really find CBN in fresh plants, the plant does not produce it, it is a degradation product of the other Cannabinoids. I do not know if UVB will speed THC breakdown in dry herb, it might.

Lab Tests and no cbn at all. CBN is a worthless degradation of THC which can cause a sickly and agitated feeling, sleepiness and and disorientation, degrades the effects of THC

It is not produced by the plant but comes from HARVESTING PAST PEAK POTENCY WINDOW AND IMPROPER DRYING/CURING AND STORING PRACTICES

You could always make bho, or canna butter and heat it past 252 to convert THC to CBN.
