New Lab Design & Build

Hey Freds, do you veg under horizontal or vertical? There's quite a varied thought process on this. I'm thinking horizontal for the first 2-4 weeks from cutting nice and tight under T5's, then switch to a donut style vertical veg area around a 600 or 1KW vertical MH for 4-6 weeks prior to putting into flower. Then ease them into full lighting on the 12/12.
Been wonderin when yas were gonna take the plunge Bro.....and....

Since yas`re in the attic of an uninsulated barn , it`d be best to build the walls outta 2 x 6`s , and ceilings framed @ 8' so yas can insulate the fuck outta everything for environmental control insurance during deep summer....

Rockwool slabs like I used before retirement are waaay dense with an awesome r-factor as well as excellent sound deadening applications.........but.......

They`re fuggin nasty.......Just gotta get past it for the ultimate goal.......Or yas can use Pink panther or the Johns-Manville white shit if sound`s not a problem , just insulate with extreme prejudice or it`ll come backta bite yas in the ass with high ass a/c/powerbills in the long run that eats into the bottom line..bet on it........now......

When I ran big plant rooms with Krusty buckets , I vegged with 400 watt MH horizontal un-cooled reflectors , and when I went increased plant numbers Heath told me about the 8 bulb 432 watt T-5 fixtures that could be all but dropped down on top of fully rooted pre-veggers ta stack nodes and build laterals........that said.......

I ALWAYS vegged Horizontal as stated above , so I could trim , prune , and shape each pick of the litter bitch into mini x-mas trees by the time I put em in the bloom rooms so they`d all grow similarly and create that perfect "sideways" canopy......and why ?........

If yas veg with vertical lights , plants react differently than under concentrated reflected light in that they grow sideways toward the lights and bush out waaaay more than necessary IME , but hey....

Some folks love the way vert vegged plants turn out before the flip......if ......they`ve got the room /footprint for each plant to make it through end of stretch without growin into each other and havin to be hacked back so they won`t compete for lumens and environment......so....

All depends on your wants and needs Bro......Me ?.......I say flip em and dip em fer mo crops per yr......The longer pot grows as it gets bigger , the more potential there is for airborn pathogens ta take hold and budrot/greymold/botyritis as well as powdery mildew and you WILL deal with em at some point or another without total environmental control...believe that.....anyways.....

I know you want bigger low plant numbers , so learn your strain and how to get rid of sucker branches as the main laterals form...There`s an art to growin big plants and it takes runs under yer belt.....just gotta learn each plants growth pattern so yas know what ta get rid of and what to leave for the greater good of bottomline yields.......anyways.....

Nuff outta me this day.......Kinda warm.....Gonna take the dawg and catch some fish fer supper.......Holler if I can help , and....... oh........

Whoever in the fuck it is that keeps following my posts around and leavin unhelpful ratings when all I do IS help , can put my shit on ignore and fuck off.....after all.....

You DO have that "ignore" option , so quit bein a lil bitch......aight ?....or.... come out in the open and confront me on even ground about what you disagree with .....

I assure yas everything I post is on a "been there and done that" situation from doin this shit way too many yrs to think about.......

Sorry Stealth....Rant`s over.....

Now get backta work.....:moon:......

Peace.....Freds.....:ying:.....

OK, I've been so damn busy I haven't had time to update!

BasementGrower: Thanks for stopping by. I'm estimating in the area of $3000 p/m. Where there's a will, there's a way. Just do it...

5th: Thanks, it's been fun so far

Freds, thanks for the input. I'm not as concerned about plant count as I am total yield. Trees make sense to me; less plants to deal with, but grown much larger which understandably increases the chances of issues such as PM, budrot, etc. Environment will be very controlled.

Vegging: I will veg under T5's from clone until about week 3-4. They will then be moved under a 600W MH for 2 weeks, and finally under 1000W MH for the remaining 2 weeks. All for a total of 8-9 weeks veg time.

They will then be moved into the individual bloom rooms - 10 per room.

I am still contemplating filling up one or two of the bloom rooms with a couple rows of Gavita 1000 DE to compare performance. One bloom room would take two rows of 5 down the sides with a 2 foot walkway between. A little tight, but I like it that way

Pics to follow

2nd floor view of 2 bloom rooms (each 10'x25'x8') with working/equipment room in front with access door.

View looking across working/equipment rooms

Electrical will be starting this week after cleaning up several items.

I'll be back to update when time permits!

Looks pretty pimp my man.

My first thought was that its going to be a PITA to work on the plants. You've not really budgeted any space to move around and work. That's going to mean you'll need to crawl around constantly which doesn't make for a inviting growing environment... which might make you lazier? I know it would me.. and then if something went wrong towards the back of the room, you may not see it fast enough. Although, I may not be invisioning it exactly how you are.

If it was me, I would do two rooms the vert way, and do two rooms horizontal and test how things work, what the yields could produce, and how easy it is to work on. Do the horizontal room with two 4'x25' lanes, one down each side of the room, with a 2' lane to walk down the middle. That would be 6 1k's down each side. Less watts and less yield, but easier and more inviting work environment. Thats just one mans opinion though..

Good luck my man, can't wait to see how things pan out!!
