dam where did you find red. i do the same thing but in white cups. whats the medium r u using. thinking about switching from vermiculite and perlite for cloning.

Found them by chance at the grocery store. Very convenient
I'm using straight coco coir. Was using perlite/vermiculite as well, but found coco a great medium to work with.

thanks. i like the perlite vermiculite mix but it seems to take forever, i am getting near 100 percent but still something does not feel right. its been a while but it seems peat pellets were faster, not sure if its the white cups or the medium. but the cups are so easy and stable if you know what i mean. i am doing a lot at one time. i actually did straight vermiculite for a while.

It sounds like you're saying that peat pellets work better in your experience, which is the exact opposite of my very limited experience. We are talking about cloning here, correct? I have gone from killing everything to mostly being successful and have mainly used rock wool, but think hempy using perlite would work as well or better. Some people run straight perlite and say it works better than the 3:1 perl/verm mix it sounds like you and I are using. I am now trying out coir which also seems to work well. Perhaps someday I will get scientific and do cuts from the same mother in coir and perlite side by side to see what happens.

Beside the ability to clone this way (which I have not done, but have no doubt it works great), I am just finishing my first run via Hempy and I must say it is amazing! It is tricky only in the sense that the growth and maturation rate is hard to gauge when you're used to the growth rate of soil. I have been tweaking on when to start flushing because I am having to guess a bit on where I am actually at in flowering. I am assuming that cat tails will be the tell regardless of medium with what I am running...I hope I am right!

Thanks for all the helpful ideas. Gonna build 2- 8 site drip rings with another pump in the overflow tray to return all the runoff back to each 10gallon supply reservoir to make sure they last a week. Feeding everyother day should hopefully be fine. Thanks again.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm finding using straight coco elimimlates the need for humidity domes, just spray and give a little water every day or two.
I think the peat pellets are quicker, but I like the convenience and ease of transplanting into a 1 gallon hempy bucket with the same coco medium, less stress.:)

A little update. Ive ended up five females along with two runts in one bucket. Now on day 13 of 12/12 and flowering has just noticeably taken off in the last two days or so. Flowering seems slow but Im just impatient. Two normal Ultra Sonya along with the two runts, one Purple Loco (green pheno), one White Rhino, one Maple Leaf Indica . Happy so far. The Ultra Sonya and White Rhino plants have totally bushed out with multiple tops. The Purple Loco and Maple Leaf Indica have really legged out.

Sorry for the fuzzy pics but in a rush tonight .

With Hempys, you will get explosive growth by feeding daily, using K.I.S.S. This provides fresh oxygen to the plants and they get hydro roots. Every day is the key to maximum yields. I am talking coco, the best medium for Hempys. These are the most awesome drip rings. Come in different sizes, and have 54 holes for even watering:

wanted to tell all my fellow hempiers a funny experience at the most knowledgeable hydro store in my area. so i went in there to get some nutes and asked them if they could help me piece together a good drip system. Well they asked me what i was doing. So i explained what i did and how i did not have to worry about ph too much, used an internal res, and so on and so forth but i obviously could not say the words hempy bucket and i did not want to use the words lucas.

well as i was explaining i could see there jaw drop lower and lower and there head start going back and forth the more i explained. So the first one pipes up after i was done and says you don't have to worry about ph in a you are an idiot kind of tone. well i said a little but not so much. the the second one interjects "internal res i would never do that it it will not work". then the last one says don't believe anything you read on the internet.

Well i explain i have been doing this for some time and its a proven method and they should check it out. but by this time they had stopped listening and totally dismissed me. then the last one says "well if it works for you" as he turns around.

The man himself said he was told as much, when he told others about his innovation. Although, I do recommend ph'ing your source water with your additives, the first time.

If you really want to screw with them, use a 5 gal bucket, a tomato plant, and Lucas formula. You'll have to take pic's because it's going to be to big to carry when it starts to fruit! Grow it on the back porch or wherever. If you do, plan on some kind of support system for it too!

But, I'll tell you right now, they won't like it! They make way too much money off all their doodads, gadgets, and high dollar nutes! After-all, growing weed is a complex and difficult endeavor and not just anybody can do it! ;)

I have recently had similar experiences w/ Hydro shops. They seem to be all about pushing whatever they have in stock and telling you they're giving you a discount (but of course it was marked way up to begin with). I haven't bothered to go into the detail of what I am doing with them, but based on their response that LED technology was not yet a good light source (they don't stock LED's), I knew they are just trying to sell, not really listening and trying to help. They probably don't want people talking about hempy in their store.....

Thanks retro. I'll try a few of the smaller 6" rings out.

A little update to wake up the Hempy crowd.
They are at 28 days 12/12. Everything happy and on track.
Feeding lightly with approx. 4 grams powdered Maxibloom/gallon water with a couple ml. of Floralicious Plus adjusted to 5.75-5.8 pH. No burnt leaf tips or undue yellowing of the leaves. They are all drinking about 1/2 gallon every couple of days with about 1/2 cup of runoff.

Lookin' good Capt!
Does anyone use a large capacity tub for mixing? I keep 5g going all the time, but would love to utilize a 40g tall narrow container....any suggestions?

I'm not sure how you're 'drowning' your seedling in hempy cups.
They have great drainage. Please explain how a regular cup is better.
I'm missing something.

I've never had an issue with mini hempys, but always open to better methods.

Thanks:)
Hi and sorry I missed this query.
I can't explain why a reg cup is better than a hempy cup, but our side by side cloning experiments have shown this plenty of times. Lets take this pic for example...
picture.php

The hempy cup clones look shit and they rooted before we took clones for the rockwool. IE. The hempy cups already had roots BEFORE we took cuts for the rockwool clones. No bullshit.

Also, here's a plant in a small reg plant pot in coco/perl fed on canna hydro nutes. She was this big when we transplanted her in a 3gal bucket...
picture.php

Canna hydro nutes contains all the food needed for plants which is why we don't need calmag or any other additives when using canna hydro nutes by the way.

PS. Nice pics capt :tiphat:

If you want to give your seedlings/cuts their best start, start them in clear solo cups, 16 oz., using Foxfarms Seed Starter Mix, or Miracle grow Seed Starter mix. These are spahgnum with mycorrhizae & very mild nutes. Regular holes in bottom. When cup is filled with roots, transplant directly to 2 gallon Hempy buckets with coco, and feed DAILY for hydro roots and explosive growth. Replenish solution to run off daily to refresh the rez and increase oxygen. This makes all the difference.

Retro: Would I start a seed the same way? Could I start it in straight coco, and when the 16oz cup is loaded with roots transplant it to a coco Hempy? Thank you
