can a temp probe be extended?

Setting up a new area and I would like all my controls to be in one central location. Only problem is, my controller/s temp probe is too short. How would one go about extending the probe or is this even possible?

I have a similar question I thought I would tag along on yours. Mine is a CAP TMP-DNE. The problem is the opposite, too long. I know the obvious solution is to roll up the exes. That was working fine until my bungling partner sliced it off while cutting some poly. So I thought, as long as it is started, I wonder if there would be any reading difference with a shorter leed or a longer one for a remote location. If I can find the speaker wire I know is somewhere, I will test it out. "luckily" I had another one I just ordered for another tent to be flipfloped off the one that controller was in. I know, the other obvious question is what was he doing cutting ANYTHING in the tent indiscriminately?!!!
How far do you want to extend it may be important as well.

Any 3 wire cable should be fine just cut and splice.


If you want and it nice and tidy locate a male and female xlr connector and a xlr cable.

Unless you are running remote from another area code there should be no problems with the length of the cable.

Just use appropriately sized butt splices and wrap it all in splicing tape once done, around here that's up to code.
I've done this to numerous Ranco controllers with no issues.

It depends on the type of sensor that the device is using. Thermocouples take special wire, and are frequently calibrated after they are wired to compensate for different wire lengths. They can be sensitive enough that sharp bends in the wire can impact their accuracy, much less splicing. Omega.com has lots of information.
