Holy crap man! it's awesome this thread is here but at the same time I'm hungry now! I have been thinking of going the Veg route but keep thinking it's a lot of work. But ya just gotta do it, and after seeing some of these pix.. yum.

Thanks for posting that Sea, I just might order that book myself. Looks like it has some
good stuff in it! I always thought Indian food was not so good until I had it. Damn.
I wish I had someone doing the cooking at my house, but being the 1st one off work...

It's nice to see other ppl taking pix of their food, I thought I was being weird doing it myself! Once I can post pix I will. But what's really cool is it's people putting the time in, and taking pride in their work. Some of this stuff takes a lot of time and patience. So to me it says a lot about someone and their personality. I suppose it's no coincidence it's here :)

Rock on guys \m/,

I'm trying to get Dave to fix some recipes out of this book: India: The Cookbook

I was getting hammered by #2 to cook items from a greek cookbook to the point that everything in the pantry and fridge was for something in the book,,,she shopped for and from the book until I had no choice.
Oh and Its not that I wasn't interested in the greek cookbook,,,after all it was my book, no not at all,,,the problem was I didn't like her.....

Well the thing about many of those Indian dishes is that they're "complicated". They're damn tasty, but after I get off work, get my workouts done, showered, the most I'm really down with is about one hour in the kitchen start to finish. Sea and I made an agreement tonight that if she can have all the spices (tons in Indian cuisine) "staged" for me then I'll be good to go. Otherwise many of these dishes may have to wait until the weekend. We'll be getting some of these dishes up though. Stay tuned. :)

We need to get one of those organizers they use. I have to see if I've still got one of those good sites bookmarked, better for the cost of the spices, too.

Sea, I don't know if you've found these guys, but their herbs and spices are very reasonable. Their chicken seasoning blend is cheaper for a pound of it than a 3 oz container locally, and I can't tell any difference in the taste. They also have a good selection of essential oils and misc. supplies.

You can make Indian food in about an hour. The thing is you have to "pre" prepare some of the ingredients to make the process faster. When I make butter chicken it takes about an hour give or take, sometimes longer because I want to make the tandoori chicken first. But if you are making vegetarian dishes you will definitely be able to make them in an hour or less.
Are there any Indian grocery stores near you? When we lived in California there were a couple in our town. They even had curry leaves which are hard to find.

Downcountry there are lots, I'm sure. Up here? Nothing resembling. Up here the Hispanic section is populated with products like La Victoria salsas. <facepalm> That's why I figured we'd go online.

The prepping is absolutely the hardest part about it, that and gathering together all the seasonings to have on hand. After that, it's pretty darn simple. The most difficult dish I've made is stuffed paratha, that does take a while to make.

Do you guys drink milk with your dinner?..Does it depend on what you have?..I cant drink milk with dinner, makes me too bloated too fast. I prefer iced tea or wine. I drink milk later on in the night with a little munchies hehe
