That's strange, Dan. I've got one reservoir (bonsai mom cabinet) that I only dump about twice a year to wipe out the accumulation, and it looks like your top picture the whole time. Have you asked Chris about it? Perhaps you could get an analysis done on the water to see what the hell is growing in it.

I'm sending chris an email tonight to see if he has any ideas . you'd figure with RO water that most everything would be filtered out .... no ????
I dunno guys . i'm getting really frustrated here .

anybody have a suggestion of what to clean the pump & rez with that will leave absolutely NO kind of residue after cleaning . have tried bleach , peroxide, rubbing alcohol , plain dishsoap & hot water .... i figured the 93% alcohol would kill any living thing & give me a completely dead & clean surface to start with , i doubt it would leave any type of residue behind especially letting it set & dry out good .

Yeah i read that thread . but i have 3 different rez's & that just wouldn't work out here . plus it doesn't seem to be effecting the plants so i don't need to filter what they're getting & theres got to be a reason its happening to me & not others . which is why its driving me crazy .

change your ph down.
powders do what you're experiencing.
used to fuck with me too.
do yourself a favor and grab a liter of AN ph up & down and it will last you forever.
kick your feet up and enjoy easy street.

I did ... i grabbed a liter of AN's down & i grabbed a bottle of EJ's liqiud double down . i will try each one in a clean different rez & see what happens . both are supposed to be some of the best PH adjusters on the market & both are liquid ... so we'll see .
I hope yer right MP !!

Dan, I bet your pumps or hoses are harboring the nasties. Both are very hard to clean and debug and when the pump is turned off the hose lines and pumps are back washed into your rez...

Do ya have a suggestion as to how to REALLY clean them ??? the line from the pump to the tray i can easily replace .... but what can i soak the pump & its filter in ???
There might be some backflush .... but not much cuz the highest point in the lines are at the top of the rez . the pots & drippers are lower than that point .

just got the Email back from chris . he says its the citric acid based PH adjusters giving me the foam . so yeah Pimpin .... you were right !! Thanx Bro :)

Anytime. It looks like a bacterial bloom. I have seen this during experiments with large doses of citric acid and other carbohydrates. I would suggest using a phosphoric based pH down product and skip any other additives. Veg+Bloom should dissolve clear into your reservoir and there will not be any foam whatsoever.

gonna have to check the 2 PH down bottles i bought & see if they're phospherous based .
thanx everybody for tryin to help me with this problem . its greatly appreciated & even more of a reason to love ICmag !!! bunch of great people here :)

I use General Hydroponics liquid adjusters. Sorry, I didn't realize that what you were using was citrus based. When I experimented with citrus based adjusters several years ago, they only worked for a day or two at the most. *slap forehead*

no problem dan.
i only know from experience, when i first started hydro, i used EJ powdered down and it fucked with me.
literally to the point of wanting to give up on hydro because "it wasn't for me"
a little trial and error and i narrowed it down the the powder.
86'd that down and things have been looking up ever since.

also.....once in a while unhook your pump to clean it.
drop it in a 5 gallon homer bucket w/ hot water and a small amount of bleach and plug it in.
be careful not to fill the bucket too much or you'll have a mess.
run it for 10 mins or so and your pump is sterile and clean like day 1.

sorry to steer the thread off track.

Thanx Pimpin !! I've gotten into the habbit of cleaning both the rez & the pump cuz of the foam , so its not like i'm breakin the habbit to soon .
when tenthirty mentioned running bleach througfh the pump , the first thing i thought of was a 5 gallon bucket with some bleach & drop the running pump in it :)
i guess stoner minds think alike :)

thanx guys :tiphat:

hey , if we don't talk about our experiances with the nutes ... good & bad , how are peeps gonna know ? right ??
at least we all know not to use any living or organic additives in a rez of V&B !!

I recently got a sample of veg + bloom the ro version. So tonight I applied it for the first time. I run ro water and use coco so when I was mixing veg + bloom I had to apply tablespoons to reach my desired ppm of around 800 in second wk of flower. Has anyone had to apply it by the tablespoons to achieve their desired ppm or ec? Also my Ph down to like 5.2. Has this happened to anyone else or just me?
