Wobbling Inline Fan

It's an eight inch. Out of the box, had a wobble, took it apart and attached the bar where it hadn't been, but still had slight wobble to it, so plugged it into a variable speed switch and ran it on a low setting, just before the wobble became too loud is where it's been set.

Mind you, I don't really need the second one going at this point, the one running full blast with a DIY 'Y' section above the cool tube and routed properly now, I've got the tent temps around 73.5.

That said, I'd still like to fix the fan.

Returning it not an option. I'll just say that when it comes down to it, most 'partners' aren't going to have anything but their own best interest at heart, even though it's they who are tagging along.

My half was cash, he's got the receipts, how do I make the fan not wobble.

Are the little things on the fan blades, weights? Like on a moto rim? can I substitute, say tape? Several layers the size of the weight looking thingys?

Can you remove the fan blade assembly and spin it on a spindle or something?

Look into balancing tires and fan blades on youtube. There should be at least one video by someone who knows how to balance it. Tape would work, make it gorilla tape or something that won't come off easy. Amazing how a tiny piece can make a huge difference.

Good luck and....

the fan blades are out of balance.
i would return and get another if you can.
but once you open it up(the motor) you may not get warranty or refund/replacement.

Or do the "cheat"...buy an identical one locally...swap units....then return the broken one in the new box for a refund. Use credit card if you want the muscle of the credit card company to insure your refund without any drama.

lol, you guys are awesome...

I'm fairly adept with mechanical things, as mentioned, things went arry with former partner. His card was used to buy with half paid in cash by me.

Never thought I'd see my stuff again, so I'll be forced to fix.

Will check into the blades tonight.

Was surprised the i-beam wasn't attached out of box though.

Guess buying a three pack was smart!

Thanks for the tips/ideas guys!

Never actually taken a blower fan apart, but taken lots of other fan apart and they all spin on an axis. rod if you will. perhaps the rod is bent or as said possibly a fan blade bent or unbalanced.

watch the fan as it spins at a low speed, if one is bent youll be able to clearly see it, as well as out of balance. you can buy weights that have a double stick tape backing and stick them right to it. (automotive wheel weights) are a good example. determine where it needs it if need be and experiment until it runs right.

also... if its straight out of the box... perhaps consider taking it back for an exchange or your money back for another.
