They can last, and they can go randomly. Mason jars are worry some cause if they go, they throw shrapnel.
I have a 1.5gal (like yours) with a square lid (3/4" thick) and mine is on a skillet as I type right now, -29.9hg @ 130 degrees (mine won't lock 120), as it has many many times before. It may implode in the future, I do not know, but it has done the job so far.
If the one you ordered only has 1 valve, message the seller. Ask if he can add a valve inbetween the pump and tee. This will save a lot of headache, and make your pump last longer. Valves are about $3.
thats wuts up, the one I ordered comes with a 1/2 " top and two valves. I figure, if it ever were to implode, I could probably replace the top with some thicker material.
Finally cracked a 1/2 gal ball jar recently. I didnt have access to my ss chamber snd needed oil asap. Took years of repetetive vac and heat to crack it, tho i dont suggest the 1/2 gal size. Smaller is better w a jar. Pumped 1 down to 25.5 one day with a hand pimp and shot the glass w a bb gun. It most certainly did implode then
