H is hydrogen. I look at it like this...pH is not the cause of anything, it is the result of the cation/anion balance. 80% of the base cations should be the combo of Ca and Mg...so yea, Ca plays the biggest role. Basically if you achieve the Albrecht ratios you are gonna be in the ballpark.

Veggies are good for you for several reasons...not the least of which is they contain lots of base cations. Those base cations prevent you from becoming too acidic and being susceptible to all kinds of disease.

Funny how that works...balance the soil and it balances the plants and the plants balance you...then you die and should be recycled to balance the soil

I am pretty much into the old style method of layering, making my own compost and just keep adding it to the top of last year.

My Sats have to be in the ground for up to 10 months and take a huge amount of feed from the soil, so I have found that the above method works perfect, just like nature intented.

Mullumbimby Madness..... looking at the least sunny side, South for us, touching on 5m and 3m across with still 3 months to go.

Brix Mix ratio

Brix Mix ratio

Hey BPGers (big plant growers ;) )

I broke out the recipe for brix mix, both wet and dry, and it seems I dont have one crucial piece of info...

Can anyone tell me the ratio of wet:dry need to mix for the brix mix. I am gonna send an email to pvgs as well but I figured since its the weekend i may get a faster response here.

Also how soon do you think is good to start with the ppd foilars, and how often..I havent used this product but am going to this season and would love if some more experienced users of this could chime in with a brief summary if they have time, thanks.

And has anyone run the aota, seems like a nice alternative to the mr nice cut, anyone with any recommendation on mr nice replacements. And not green crack hehe

Bless

So I ordered 120 yards of custom mix from the earth worm soil factory off neal rd by the dump in chico, very happy with the customer service from this place for the last couple years..a great family outfit that deserves our support.

AOTA stands for "all of the above". Can be done by Sept 15,it's ok. I can pm you more info about the breeders. Seems like it's really special to the circle of growers it came from, but overall it's nothing too special. It's nice though, kind of a sweet floral smell and taste.
I haven't grown it but my friend has for a few years and I know some people who know the crew it originated from.

Hey Veg...how do you prepare the ground under one of those mounds? Does it matter what the local soil is?

Also do you re use soil or just replace it all?

I'm back....

I'm back....

I am back in the big boy league this season. I am going to run a plot of my Pomo's Pride genetic.

I hope I can top these Northern Dreams from years back:

Many Blessings,

25 bags black gold potting soil (1.5cf ea)

4 bags stutzman farms chicken manure (1 cf ea)

1 bag perlite (4 cf ea)

1 bag (50 lbs) bonemeal (steamed, not precipitated)

1/2 bag gypsum (aprox 1/2 cf) - Edit -> 1/2 of a 40 lb bag (20lbs).

Mix well, water thoroughly, let rest for 2-3 weeks minimum, transplant, and stand back

im terrible with math...can someone break this mix down to 50 gallons of total mix?instead of 300?

is black gold potting soil basicly the same as lc's mix?
how come so much bone meal?isnt bone meal for flowering?why not blood meal in the mix?

LC's Soiless Mix
6 parts Pro Mix BX or HP / Sunshine Mix (any flavor from #1 up)
2 parts perlite
2 parts earthworm castings
Powdered (NOT PELLETIZED) dolomite lime @ 2 tablespoons per gallon or 1 cup per cubic foot of the soiless mix.
If you use a 3 qt. saucepan as “parts” in the amounts given above, it equals about 1 cu. ft. of soiless mix and you can just dump in a cup of powdered dolomite lime.

Yes it matters regarding starting soil type, I didnt do the same thing to the river bed as I did the ones on top of more clay dominant...in the river loam the goal is to keep the nutrients so I brought in a bunch of clay I dug up from elsewhere on the farm that I screened with a rock rake..then I thought to myself, I need to increase organic matter and biology, so I added green waste compost and worm castings...then to finally dial in the cec I added peat moss and volcano cinders..at this point the soil is ready for mineralization. For more clay, rototill gypsum in and flood with tea and then pile my soil mix on top tilling bottom layer in with the clay a bit..I just pile more on top every year.
