need help

hello new to the site i got alot of questions hopefully i can get some answers


i got a 4x4x7 tent running a 600W hps inside a 6inch air cooled hood i got my charcoal filter at the top of the tent ducted to the hood and then from the bulb side of the hood i got it ducted out of the tent to a 6 inch centrifugal fan blowing it out the window of my 2 story house

during the day its hot in the tent not the temps i want there in the mid 80s at night time the temps are great but i want to have complete control of my tent even during a hot day using the holes in the tent as a passive intake isnt helping that much plus i want alot of airflow and im afraid i could stress my plants just having the exhaust always on the tent shows negative air pressure if i were to get an intake fan how many cfm should it be? i have a 6 inch exhaust 425 cfm running full power

should my intake be double or less than my exhaust fan

i have covered all of my hood with aluminum tape to minimize heat escaping into the tent i have the digi ballast running 100 percent

i wish to have my tent be at a stable 75 to 77 degrees i even thought about buying an ac but i read for my 4x4 tent its not a good idea


i would really appreciate it if you guys could give me some ideas on my intake and is that going to cool things down or what

Run your filter on its own fan. Pull air from outside your tent through your hood and back out again. See if this helps.

If you have cool air outside the tent. Use a small fan ta suck it inside. Set on a timmer ta turn off in lights off temps are already good.

Took almost 10 degrees off my temps..

It's all about the Environment. ..

thanks social its an idea and it might work to keep my temps down since theres a hole on each side of the tent aprox where my light is at i think this might work i dont have anything flowering just yet so i can get a fan for the filter in the near future i am going to germinate some northern lights x sheeva mix tonight just stressing i bought some soil but havent tested the ph ..

i am a first time grower but a long time smoker i could use all the advice i can get

When using passive intake (no fan) your intake should be twice the area of your exhaust to maintain a negative pressure environment.When using active intake (fan) the intake fan shoulf be rated the same or less cfm than the exhaust.

hey volcanic, i run a similar tent set up as yours. i run a 4'x4'x7' grow lab tent. i have a 6" blockbuster hood intaking from the room, thru the light fixture, out the other side of the tent all the way to out of the window. i aslo run a 4" fan with carbon (on 24/7) exhausting the top of tent tied into the other duct then out the window. i use the screened openings in my tent as passive intakes. i built light traps for those openings:

one on each side. i also put intake filters on these light traps(not shown in pic)
my point is, i run 1k lighting, and can keep internal temps within 5*f of the ambient room temp. the room has a window AC controlled by a thermostat. so, you should be able to get/keep temps where you want them. this set-up has great negative pressure and keeps odors in check for me...

morehead nice set up i wish i had 1k going maybe in the near future!

my only concern with using the holes in my tent covered with light traps as passive intakes is that my tent is showing alot of negative air pressure.. is this good for my plants will they be stressed out by this condition in the tent?

i know from what i read so far negative air pressure will assist the carbon filter in doing its job in keepin the smell in the tent but can there be to much negative air pressure to affect plant growth?

i am growin in soil with general hydroponics flora series nutrients tested my ph soil runoff last night wich reads in between 5.5 and 6.0 and my tapwater is at 7.0 wich i hope will be just right when i mix my nutes and i got some ph down.... i am excited for these upcoming months

indoors, i've always had to grow in some sort of enclosure (cabinets, closets, tents, etc). i've never had any negative effects from using negative pressure. alot of growers do the same thing. I feel, enviornment is just as important as genetics.

I'll say environment is even more important than genetics.You can have great genetics but grow them in piss poor environment and you get piss poor results.

I've planted seeds from some of the worst mids I've seen and got great results because of an optimal environment.

First you should try and dial environment...

Ventilation,temperature lights on & off,humidity,grow style & media,lighting etc.

Then worry about genetics,but bagseed from good herb can give good results

so right now i got the room temp at 84F wich im not happy about i just got back from getting a 6inch fan same one i have for my exhaust

my idea is two get a y extention and have a double vent intake i got alot of 6 inch ducting stuff ha!

i have my air filter at the top running with ducting to the light and then from the bulb side of the hood connected to ducting i am sucking out of my exhaust hole at the top of my tent my 6inch fan is located outside the tent blowing the air out of the window

now it was recommended by socialist to run my light with its own fan and the filter on its on also so i would still use a passive intake style

i am going to try it all till i get this tent dialed in

any suggestions would be great

so i put my ducting into the tent with a intake fan 6in and my tent went from having alot of negative pressure to alot of positive the tent looks like a balloon right now!

i am stressing im going to try to just exhaust with one and cool the hood with the new fan i bought today see what kind of results i get cause im not pleased with this tent looking like a huge balloon

so i got the temps to 77 but i achieved this by removing my air charcoal filter so my hood now has a piece of ducting looking like a c for charlie where it was connected before and its sucking all of the heat right out but what sucks is that im going to need another fan for when im flowering

i have 2 six inch fans alot of ducting a 600 W hps bulb and a 6 inch air cooled hood in a 4x4x7 am i really going to need a 3rd fan what am i doing wrong ? need help?

i got the tent with the 6 in fan as an intake fan and my tent is showing to much positive air pressure its like aballoon i have a air temp controller that blows barely slows the fan down what should i do

Don't use an intake fan.Set up one fan to soley aircool your 600w HPS.

Air from outside tent > ducting > aircooled hood > ducting to out of tent > attic/another room or window exhaust box.

Then use the other 6" fan soley for ventilation with your carbon filter.Just make sure your passive intake is atleast 2x larger then your exhaust.

^^^^ yes , that. one fan for only the light exhaust. one fan for only tent heat exhaust. should work well
