Didn't the new mayor tell the US and city attorneys to cease and desist?
the mayor telling the us attorney to stand down is only slightly more effective than if you or i told her the same thing.
initially the proposed zoning ordinance was supposed to go in front of city council next tuesday. the latest word is that it'll happen in the month of march sometime. there's 2 new faces on the council this session, and can't anyone predict how they'll vote. then there's another 2 members of council who will absolutely vote no on any ordinance that isn't a de facto ban. and even if it does pass, it's only going to be a zoning ordinance that applies to where storefront dispensaries—not growers—can operate. and only in the city proper. and from what i understand, it's not going to be terribly less restrictive than the 2011 ordinance that got repealed. after a zoning ordinance, there will need to be another ordinance that establishes guidelines for how dispensaries can operate. and even if all of this magically comes together, there's still the issue of the us attorney to consider. and and and... it's hardly an open and shut thing.
the very only thing that i can tell has changed is that the new mayor gives at least the appearance of being sympathetic to dispensaries and patients. what that actually means going forward is anyone's guess.
me? i'm remaining cautiously optimistic, same as ever.
